MELIÁ Zanzibar

Hi MELIA Team Zanzibar :) We had the most exceptional, funny and unique stay at The Level - MELIA. Our Beach pavilion was just perfect. The food, drinks and service were outstanding. In every corner of the hotel are waiting BIG smiles of the staff. I guess the management provides good and consistent trainings, what a place like MELIA definitely deserves. My favourite spot was GABI Beach. Super sweet restaurant, right on the beach. For our full moon dinner we went to The Jetty. Having the best Jackfish and Red Snapper Asian style since a long time. Paul, our waiter offered the most friendly and best service possible. It seems like in MELIA ZANZIBAR everything is possible. :) Between good food = good mood, we enjoyed ourselves swimming, suntanning (of course ;)), skateboarding :D, we used the gym, which offers great gym equipment and we had the best Spa Treatments. The site of MELIA ZANZIBAR has a beautiful Garden landscape, Turtle and Donkey sanctuary, as well beehives. I think they even have a cave to explore. MELIA got it all!! :) We could be free and ourselves without disturbing others. Definitely felt home and in every moment very welcome. We had the most incredible stay at the Melia hotel, I honestly couldn't recommend enough. We stayed for a full week and left the hotel feeling re-energised and relaxed. The staff are incredible, and very thoughtful. Alphonse and Paul at the breakfast in particular, whenever they would see us arrive, they would remember our drinks order and reconfirm those with us. Same with our specific avocado request, they always made sure to tailor to our requests and this was very much appreciated. Abdalla from Gabi beach always came to check in on us to make sure that we had everything we needed during our beach days! Thank you to Vikram who also made sure that our stay was seamless and who made sure we were having a great time. The GM of the hotel, Nicolas, who's been living in Zanzibar for more than 8 years now, made sure to check in with us and gave us some great recommendations for activities on the island! Food wise it was really good, every evening is a different theme night and the food diversity is great. We particularly loved the dinner on Gabi beach one evening! I would also highly recommend dinner at the Jetty one evening - the fresh fish was incredible. The view in the daytime is also extremely special. We stayed in a pavilion at Level and the room was breathtaking! We got to see the most beautiful sunrise every morning, it was truly mesmerising! The team always made sure that the mini bar was stocked up and that we were not missing anything. If you enjoy a workout, the gym with a few on an infinity pool is equally as beautiful! The resort in itself is truly beautiful because the land is spread out so you never feel crowded or on 'top of each other', there is space, there's some cute animals (rescue donkeys) and if you're lucky you can see bush babies! If you're visiting Zanzibar, I cannot recommend enough to stay at the Melia with Nicolas Konig and his amazing team

The setting is beautiful right above the beach maybe 40 steps. We booked a beach pavilion which on arrival did not have a beach view but more a vegetation view which we did not want to. We complained and they moved us to another room with a partial beach view . They have other beach pavilions in other areas of the Hotel but we had chosen the Level . They have better rooms available so it’s hit and miss . The staff are superb always welcoming and friendly . The food is of a high standard. The Level restaurant is very good and the bar is nice . The Jetty is good but limited menu . Fish of the day cooked several different ways but the setting is lovely . The Buffet was not great . Beach restaurant very good . The big let down for us was the appalling evening entertainment which was mostly local and pretty boring bordering on the annoying. Not just us several couples we met felt the same . The wine selection is very poor and the all inclusive wine is undrinkable . The Level pool was green and very cloudy for 10 days of our visit which was off putting and we did not venture into it . It did clear towards the end . When visiting the beach you MUST take or rent sea shoes as the hidden rocks are a problem and also many other beaches have a lot of sea urchins that can be very painful . GET SEA SHOES. It’s a very relaxing but for the money we paid for The Level and beach pavilion bungalow it didn’t come up to expectations.

Hakuna matata and asante Melia. Such a pleasure to be accommodated in this heaven. Perfect breakfasts, lunch and dinner. The most incredible cocktails and also such a wonderful beach. All is so clean and safe. There are so much to do in this resort so you won’t be bored. Until the next time keep up the good work!

After 8 days of safari adventures, my husband and I had the most relaxing week at Melia Zanzibar. We stayed at the Level and we can’t say enough good things about our experience. Everything was outstanding. Our bungalow was gorgeous, the view was spectacular, the food was great, and the service was beyond expectations. Special thanks to Yussuf, the receptionist, who made sure everything was perfect from the day 1 until the end of our stay. He was available 24/7, professional, friendly, and quick to respond to any request. We can’t wait to go back to this hotel. Asante Sana Melia Zanzibar!

My wife and I have just returned from Melia Zanzibar for a weekend gateway, and we had a fantastic stay. We went with the full intention of relaxing and we achieved it in abundance, and this was possible with the help of people with the only objective to make every day you spend there, the best day of your life. And that includes literally everybody; from the people who move you around with buggies, to the people at the restaurants, the spa and obviously to the management team lead by the General Manager Nicolas and the Resort Manager Ricardo, who is always present and takes care of the physical well-being of his guests. All the restaurants should be visited at least once, and definitely don’t miss out the lobster fiesta night. It was an amazing display of creativity, with a local touch and great talent in the kitchen. The restaurant by the jetty for lunch was fantastic, and our lovely waitress Elizabeth made it even more memorable by her wonderful service and kind personality. A special thanks to Orio (The F&B Manager) who found the time to check on us. The pavilion is spacious and always clean. It's obvious that the room is regularly renovated and in excellent condition. The spacious outdoor balcony area also offers enough privacy and a beautiful pick of the sunset. Everything in the room is first class. In brief, the resort is well maintained and kept very clean, all the facilities are magnificent, the food is delicious and diverse, but the human factor is what really makes this place different than anything you have seen so far. We recommend this beautiful resort without hesitation if you decided to visit Zanzibar. We will be back. Patrick and Emelia #54

It was our sixth time at Melia Zanzibar and what a fantastic experience it was! We stayed in the Sea view bungalow overlooking the Indian Ocean and we got to experience all the LEVEL amenities. The resort is devided into two sections. The Melia section with bungalows, rooms and a family pool and the more recent LEVEL section with an adult pool and direct access to Gabi beach. Guests can come and go between the two sections by golf carts provided by the hotel and a converted Zanzibar deladela (public bus) which makes the whole experience all the more fun. It only takes about 7 minutes. There are 5 restaurants in the Resort all with amazing food. We especially liked the Gabi beach restaurant for its delicious lunches. The turquoise ocean and the silky white sand add to this heavenly experience. The Level pool is an oasis of peace with soft music punctuated by the sound of waves. There are plenty of sun beds, parasols and fluffy towels for guests to enjoy and the staff is always available to bring you refreshing drinks. We mostly ate dinner at the breezy LEVEL poolside restaurant. The Chef’s creations are scrumptious offering a wide choice of surf or turf made to your liking. Many thanks to managers Daniel and Riccardo and their excellent teams. Their friendliness made us feel very special. Our hearts also go to Magda and Abdul from the front desk and all their colleagues who were so welcoming and nice. We have just returned from 12 nights in the Melia Hotel, Zanzibar and what a wonderful stay we had. We actually arrived at the hotel at 3am and unfortunately we didn’t realise that check in was at 3pm. We hadn’t booked an early check in which was a bit of an error on our part. However, the staff member working on reception at the time (Shelia) was so very helpful and arranged for us to have two rooms to sleep in until we could check in to our rooms we were booked to have for the 12 night stay. The hotel is set in large sprawling grounds which are really well maintained and the gardeners and maintenance staff all seem to be working so hard to make everything amazing for the guests. Our room was spacious and clean and had a very large bathroom, and a balcony. The only slight issue was that we were given a twin room instead of a double. A quick call was made to reception and they came straight over and sorted the bed out for us making it into a double. The food at Melia was delicious and there was so much variety in the main restaurant (The Spice Market). There is also the Jetty restaurant which is beautiful and we went there several times. As the name would suggest it’s at the end of a jetty out into the sea. A lovely setting and the food was absolutely delicious. There are also lunch time restaurants at Gabi beach which is a 20 minute walk from main reception or a quick bus ride provided by the hotel. The food here was also great as was the pool side restaurant. The buses run all the time and Gabi beach sits within the confines of the hotel grounds. On one night per week the entire Spice Market dining area is moved to the beach which is really nice. Gabi beach is beautiful and the sand is as nice and soft as you’ll find anywhere. All the staff at the hotel are so friendly and welcoming. And this goes all the way from the cleaners and gardeners up to the management. They are a real credit to the hotel and deserve enormous praise for the way they make guests feel. We also arranged scuba diving through the hotel with a local diving centre called Scuba Fish. This worked really well and the charge for the diving went onto our hotel bill which was handy. We also did a trip to Stone town and Prison island. These were great and highly recommended. The bar staff work extremely hard and Twahir deserves a particular mention for being so friendly and always had a big smile for us. Other staff that made our stay so great were Paul who works at the Jetty and was so very friendly and helpful and also the beverage and catering manager who unfortunately I didn’t catch his name but he always had time to speak to us and was very hands on helping his staff. I wish i knew the names of all the staff as they were all so friendly and helpful. All in all we couldn’t have wished for a better holiday so thank you to Melia and their staff for making our holiday so special.

From the minute we stepped through the door we were wowed!!! What a truly magical location and hotel. We were staying in the Level and felt extremely lucky to have such an amazing experience. The beach, setting and restaurant and bars are wonderful, the food is some of the best we have ever had on holiday. The beach was easily accessible by golf buggies and we never waited more than a minute or two for one. The highlight at night was being driven back to our room in a buggy with the a number of staff who treated us to a regular rendition of Jambo Bwama-amazing!! Having lunch by the beach or on the jetty was incredible, you will never tire of the gorgeous ocean view. We went to the Swahili bbq and had a lobster dinner both on the beach and a brilliant experience. We went into Stonetown all arranged by guest services and our tour guide was brilliant do knowledgeable and even bought us an umbrella as it was the only day it rained. The Melia is so special because of its team, the managers took time to talk to all guests and were always on the go, a special mention for Ricardo and Oriol who never seemed to have any time off!! A massive thank you to Hamid who taught my husband and I to play Bao and also looked after us so well by the pool! Lilian is an absolute credit to the hotel, such a kind and thoughtful young lady, who kept the pina colada’s flowing but also came to chat to us every day, remembered our drinks at breakfast, her sparkle won’t be forgotten. Words don’t do justice to this truly special hotel and it’s team-simply perfect ❤️
