Definitely would only rate this hotel a 3 star. The staff are lovely and accommodating and make the hotel a nice environment. The tiles around the pools are extremely dangerous, a slipping hazard as soon as they are wet. The food and drinks are average, rarely had hot food was always lukewarm. Disappointing that snacks & ice cream are only available after 3pm. Evening entertainment was very limited, two nights out of the seven. Gouves itself is a lovely place. Would rate the room average, bathrooms could do with being upgraded. Overall a nice stay & relaxing week away but changes could definitely be made.

Just had another fantastic week at Blue Aegean hotel, excellent location, cant fault this place spotlessly clean fantastic staff can't do enough for you , great food , thanks to management dimos and manos, you won't be disappointed booking this hotel

We have had a great week away at the Diogenis Palace & would recommend it anyone looking for a nice quiet place to staying Gouves. Great location, a beach just across the road and some small local bars with a shop next door. The hotel is very clean and well managed, the staff are all helpful and friendly with special thanks to Kostas and Lucy who ensured we had a nice relaxing week, they could have been more friendly or helpful. The hotel has a good selection of food and everyday there is something different on the menu. Thank you Kostas & Lucy & all the staff, we will be back again.

We only stayed two nights, but will definitely book to stay again. Room had a side sea view overlooking Marias Golden Beach restaurant. Lovely studio, very well equipped with cutlery, coffee maker, fridge, electric hob, washing line and pegs. On the landing are an iron, hairdryer, travel kettle, and books to borrow if needed. Good wi-fi (full strength as I write). Owners live in Heraklion so let them know expected arrival time. When meeting owner to pay and register next morning we were offered a very smooth raki, and sweeties! The rooms are not easily identifiable, as they are above a closed shop, but just find Marias Golden Beach restaurant and they are just opposite the indoor part of the restaurant.

These are basic clean very secure little bedsit apartment s that are over a shop see pictures on *********** you have a lockable front door from the street .clean basic cooking ,beds shower etc there was even a mosquito net over the bed if you wanted. We never had one mossy the whole time in these apartments you have a sea view but it also overlooks a very large busy resturant which if you like to people watch its a bonus. It suited us as we were out most of the time and didn't mind enjoying a bottle of wine on our own wee veranda while eating our own prepared food there is a 2 ring cooker.we will use again as a bargain right in centre of town no car park but we parked on the main road 2 mins behind apartment the owners are a nice young hardworking couple. There were even extra toiletries and candles that other folks had left lying on a table outside so you could use if needed .if you want a good central secure base at budget price this is it ps if you don't want air on you can leave veranda door open and your front door open and get a through draft as you are on the 1st floor with a locked front door downstairs very secure we have been budget hols for many years in crete and this one is really safe and we would return to plus you can pick up free wifi
