Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel

Met by friendly and courteous staff at reception. Room was clean, and View was nice from the room. The shower was terrible! Luke warm at the hottest temperature and freezing when you turned the temperature any other way. We ordered food from the qr code for room service because my daughter wasn’t feeling very well, but waited over an hour and it never came. I tried to ring down for about 20 mins but no one answered the phone. I went down to reception and spoke to the lady who was very apologetic and explained that the app never works, if this is the case perhaps the hotel should remove the codes from the room and replace with a traditional room service menu instead! The lady on reception did all she could to rectify the problem and seemed to be used to this happening. Unfortunately because I had to wait so long for room service( was just meant to be a snack) I missed out on using the facilities so can’t really comment but they did look good . Breakfast was fantastic I have to say, well cooked and lots of choice, serve yourself which I enjoyed.

Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Old-fashioned, grubby, dingy and dirty throughout. We stayed here on 7th August for one night and expected a certain standard for a four-star Mercure hotel we paid £94.50 for – but our experience fell far short of what we expected. The carpets in the corridor were covered in large brown stains, in the room there were stains on the curtains and up the walls, the basin was grubby, all the paintwork was cracking and the wallpaper was peeling off, the sealant round the bathtub needed re doing, as did the grouting on the bathroom floor and splashback tiles around the basin, the shower screen seal had gone a dirty brown colour and the bathtub creaked loudly as you stood in it as if your were going to fall through the floor. There was a significant lack of upkeep throughout the whole hotel which is falling into a state of disrepair. We checked in late around 10pm and were both very tired after a busy day and had a busy day to come the following morning and so it wasn’t practical to go looking for another hotel to stay the night and complaining for an upgrade was futile and pointless as there was no chance they had any better rooms and so just had to make do for the night. When we complained the next morning to give feedback about how bad the hotel was and to see if we could get any of our money back since our stay was exceptionally poor value for money, the woman on the desk wasn’t very interested in what we had to say and told us we would have to speak to the manager David Cook who conveniently wasn’t available at the time. The manager clearly doesn’t care since he never bothered phoning me back despite calling the reception twice in the days following our stay. The staff seemed well versed in how to deal with complaints and came up with a litany of bogus excuses such as how he was in a meeting or will call later or had gone home. I suspect that they’re used to this kind situation where guests feel that the standard falls well below what they would expect for the money paid and hope if they come up with enough excuses people will get fed up of trying to complain. Do not be misled by the nice-looking photos on the website – The hotel looks nothing like them whatsoever. We have stayed in other Mercure Hotels elsewhere and always had a good experience but this hotel is an embarrassment to Mercure and they should be ashamed to put their name to this hotel. There is absolutely no way this is a four-star hotel. This is the first and hopefully last time I will need to write such a negative review – but this hotel really deserves it. We left here £94.50 shorter and feeling thoroughly ripped off. We never thought a hotel could be this bad. If you have booked a room, wedding or event here I encourage you to cancel it as soon as possible. Do not stay here.

If you are considering staying here, I would strongly advise against it. I booked a junior suite, expecting a comfortable stay, but the reality was far from it. The carpets are filthy and worn, the woodwork appears neglected and hasn’t seen a fresh coat of paint in decades, the carpet needs a good hoover and the tiles are cracked and grimy, with visible dirt and mould in the bathroom. Additionally, you can’t use the stand-lamp if you want the mini fridge on, and the WiFi connection is non-existent, making it impossible to stay connected. To add to the disappointment, the swimming pool does not open until 9am, leaving no time for a morning swim before breakfast, which ends at 9:30am. This has been an extremely disappointing experience, and I’m struggling to maintain a positive outlook for my child’s sake. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room was ok, but there was an unpleasant smell from outside so couldn’t open the window to get any fresh air. Bed was two singles put together but comfy mattress, awful pillows though. No air con, only hot air radiator. Room was dark and lights were inadequate. Door was secure so good for sole travellers. Carpet was very old and grubby. Bathroom was from the 70s! So old looking with parts broken - and the soap dispenser was broken too, no space for toiletries and dark so very hard to apply make up in the morning. Walls must be paper thin - someone opposite my room was watching tv and that was heard very loudly in my room despite there being a corridor between! Breakfast was very good and the staff were nice. Plenty of parking.

Room was immaculate and well equipped with everything you need.The awards night was great,lovely food came piping hot and the staff were so accommodating couldn't do enough for us especially our son as he had trouble and got very upset the staff helped us and him and made him feel at ease.thoroughly enjoyed it, will definitely be going again.
