We were blown away by the beautiful ambience of this Heritage Hotel. The staff from check in to check out were extremely hospitable. Food was delicious. Spoilt for choice at breakfast. I was amazed at the training every staff member is trained to be in this industry. Credit for this should gotoThe Manager of this Hotel Ms Urvija Deshpandey and her supporting team. We'll done!!!

Amazing get away in the city. Very spacious room. Great service and Wonderful food. So much to explore. Very Secure. Recommended for solo trips. The evening arathi and cultural program should not be missed. Do try delicacies like Mutton Pantheras, great soups and brilliant bakery products in the East Indian restaurant.

We had really been looking forward to our stay at this Taj property for a while. It is an unusual addition to the numerous hotels in Kolkata. This zamindar house converted to a hotel was beautiful in the pictures we saw online but pictures are not everything. Our arrival and check-in at the hotel was very professionally done by the front desk staff who were pleasant. We were told that we were being upgraded to a larger room due to our extended stay. We later realized this was not the best room (114) as it was next to the kitchen and East India Room (main dining area). There was a lot of noise from the kitchen of banging pots and pans and a lack of privacy. When we opened the door there were always people eating right outside. Moreover every evening from 5:30 to 6:15 pm there was the noise of the “dhol” right in front of our room which was very loud. The performances in the evening were by the same group for the first three evenings, doing the same routine, so if you are staying more than one or two nights this could become monotonous. The evening tea and “jhaal muri” was interesting. What we noticed at this property was that the staff appeared to be less trained and friendly compared to the other Taj properties we had stayed at on this trip. When we requested some information regarding a particular days special menu, it took three people and a complaint at the front desk to receive the same on our phone. The two turbaned guys at the front of the hotel were the friendliest, especially Kunal. PROS: Beautiful old heritage property with antique furnishings Reasonable quality of food, (though not top notch like other Taj properties) but lacking in variety Big room and bathroom and adequate storage space Welcome “mishti” and fruits Clean bed linen and very comfortable bed and pillows CONS: Main entrance to the hotel is on a side road next to a small slum. Uncovered entrance from the road where you are dropped off to the reception and then another uncovered walk to your room - this can be inconvenient if it is raining. You have a chance of getting wet just trying to get to your car. The towels provided were old and yellow and with black marks all over (not expected in a Taj property). The bathroom leaves a lot to be desired - lack of due diligence by the cleaning staff. The marble in the shower area need to be scrubbed and cleaned so it does not look grungy. Faucets and shower head are old and need to be replaced. Specially, the shower head was terrible and water flow and temperature was inconsistent.

This was a wonderful experience. The layout, the ambience, the artefacts , the cleanliness all were just mind blowing. The staff were well trained and extremely courteous. The room was well made . There was a pursuit of perfection in each domain. And boy, the sleep quality was excellent with 0 % outside light and relatively noise free in the centre of a big city
