We had a three week stay at the Uday Samudra beach hotel, during which we had to complain daily about the building works and associated noise and disruption experienced during our stay. Jack hammers, hammering and banging across various locations around the hotel were a constant everyday. In addition each day brought with it a constant stream of workmen wheeling barrows of building materials through the pool area which was hugely intrusive. Outside our ‘see view’ room was piles of building materials and workmen constantly grinding and cutting these materials (bricks, blocks, tiles, support metal work)etc. We complained numerous times to hotel management, the in-country partner of the travel agent and the travel agent in the UK, forwarding over 40 mails and over 100 videos and photos. We also had an issue with security associated with an external door having an inadequate and easily breached lock. On the plus side the staff were all lovely and could not do enough for us, and the food was excellent. The Hotel management however were in denial saying the noise was from adjacent hotels which was clearly not the case as demonstrated by numerous videos we collected. The in country agent was near to useless. The UK travel agent (Mercury Travel) was less than responsive having been sent 40 mails and videos, concluding that the hotel was carrying out essential beautification works, painting and tiling etc. after 6 weeks of investigation with their in-country partner. Which was not the case evidenced by the videos sent to them on an almost daily basis. This holiday should never have been sold given the ongoing extensive works that took place during our stay. I feel let down by the hotel and by Mercury Holidays in their responsiveness and ownership of the issue.
