The Gateway Hotel Beach Road, Calicut

Had good quality sleep. Awesome team. The front office manager Mr Sanjai, the banquets manager Harekrishnan are Rockstars, so it the housekeeping manager Mr Singh. Food was awesome in the South Western Coastal Festival (Konkan, Goan, Mangalorean ) on during my stay. Above 5 stars for the spread as it was 'light on my heart' (oil we many like to stay away was less) taste great and spread such you can mix and match (like I had bread with prawn curry and fresh bread roll with beans usli. Chef was Mr Prakash from Cape Comorin Taj Westend Bengaluru. His receipe of Lentil Crumble - Beans Usli) was out of this world. And his connotations for those with a sweet tooth is yummy.

The hotel is good comparing to other hotels in kozhikode Like, 1) Staff behaviour is Terrific. 2)Overall clearness is good. 3)Pool side facilities is also great. but said that few points to be taken care of are:- 1) The lift is old and has carrying capacity issues. 2) The hotel as being branded as 5 star should maintain their internal and external decor such as paint etc. 3) Delay in room services and breakfast should include more non-veg items instead of just one chicken curry and a chicken sandwich.

Location - walkable distance to beach and many food spots like adaminte chaykada Staff - Very Friendly and supportive staffs; Good service, food - Good breakfast; Kids menu was good Cleanliness - staff are keen on maintaining the cleanliness of the rooms and the entire property..... Amenities - could be improved a bit; accessories are a bit old; need timely check and restoration

Location - close proximity to beach ,roughly 2 km to town centre .. Property - good reception area , feels like an old property but it didn't affect us.. Rooms spacious for 3 adults .Minimal toiletries noted. Pool - superb , enjoyed very well Breakfast was delicious with great spread .. [As read in many other reviews - old lift ( not a problem ), key card issue ( worked well for us ) , and no stinking smell in our room .] Overall relaxed stay and Value for money ..

We stayed here from May 2nd till May 5th. Mr.Aboobakar the life guard, Murali from the restaurant, Renjith from housekeeping and the lady from the front office were very pleasant and welcoming. The valet parking team was good as well. What most of the staff in the restaurant was lacking was a smile on their face and explain what they serve the guest. I dont know why management takes people from the engineering department, and uses them to help in breakfast, as the person assigned, was very unpleasant and served an omelette on my table not even looking on my face and just walked off very seriously.He was found busy with the mobile phone in the live pickup counter later.I felt like i am sitting at a Daba. ( Even if they don't do it). The breakfast buffet was average and the beetroot juice what they put on the buffet on the first day till the last day tasted like water even after mixing and shaking the jug, where they displayed it. Addressed it to the small north indian lady who appologised me for delaying my omelette and waffle for 20 minutes on sunday, as it was a busy breakfast day. But on the last day of my check out also i had to see this kind of unpleasant face as well. I can understand if the property is old. But a smiling face, good service and good food can change the game. They will go for rennovation in couple of months. But to be frank this is not the place where you will get Taj standards and service. Better go for different star hotels in calicut like, Gokulam, Tiara or Raviz.

The place is ancient, but not vintage or heritage - just old and dire need of renovation. It’s a sort of a cold building - lack character or anything distinct to register as unique. But hospitality is good, food excellent and the chef amazingly eager to make dining special, especially if you have specific needs - we are vegan and they took exceptional care.
