San Canzian Hotel & Residences - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

We were looking for a peaceful oasis to relax away from the coasts of resorts overrun by tourists and we found the peace we were looking for. A quiet and welcoming resort, the staff always ready to help us with any request. We traveled with a one-year-old baby, and all the staff from the cleaning lady, to the bartender in the pool area, the receptionists and the restaurant staff made his experience unforgettable, with so much patience and love. The smell of rosemary and lavender, the olive groves and vineyards on the horizon and an undisturbed view of the sunset, were the icing on the cake of this whole experience. We hope to return soon and also try the experiences offered by the hotel especially the truffle hunt!

Chic boutique village style hotel with wonderful views to the sea…great sunsets! The rooms are modern with concrete floors…not particularly cosy but comfortable nonetheless. Housekeeping could be improved…surfaces could be cleaner, TV didn’t work on arrival but was fixed but then failed again, room safe was locked on arrival. Breakfast is fine although the fruit and pastry selection is limited - the Istrian scrambled eggs are excellent! Quality of the food at dinner is very good but it is expensive and portions are miniscule; we were not inspired enough to revisit the restaurant on the subsequent evenings of our stay, once was enough. Other minor issues such as bedside lights which are not conducive to reading as they hang over and do not spread light beyond, the nightstand but, most irritatingly for us (perhaps we are light sleepers) was being woken at 4.15am every day by the crowing of the village rooster. We were told that the rooster lives in the “village”...with respect, the village is a hotel not a farm and, at these prices, we would have appreciated a full night’s sleep!

Very helpful and accommodating staff. The premises are very quiet, relaxing, isolated and immaculately maintained in the middle of an area that seems far removed from the mass tourism associated with the coastal area. Great breakfast and great typical Istrian lunch where we ate the best fuži we ever had in the decades that we have been visiting Istria. Complimenti!

This was truly one of the nicest, most accommodating, warmest, most attractive hotels I have ever stayed in. Not cheap. But as a splurge, it's so, so worth it. The customer service -- thank you Susana, and Mia, and the two young men at the desk and who helped with luggage via a gold cart -- was the best I have ever experienced. Seriously. Danijela and her entire team were OUTSTANDING! Everyone from the service staff to the spa providers went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was nothing less than perfect. We were traveling in a group of six and were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival with an upgraded villa that was amazing. We appreciated all of the small details that made our trip one to remember. We will be back!!!

The hotel is a very peaceful oasis. While it is a bit inland you can see the sea from the property and watching sunsets are beautiful. We spent two afternoons at the pool and while it isn’t particularly large it never got overcrowded and was quite pleasant. There was a nice covered/shaded area for a break as well. We did not eat dinner on property because we weren’t in love with the menu but had breakfast. There was nothing wrong with the breakfast but it was probably our least favorite spread of the four places we stayed on this trip. The room is where the hotel fell a bit short. It was small for what we had thought we booked. The kids room with twin beds didn’t even have a door that fully opened because the bed was making over the end of the doorway. It was a bit odd because we felt like it could have been moved a bit over if they had end tables that fit. Similarly in our room the end tables were so high up they were hard to use. It is almost as if they bought furniture they liked and then put it in the room even if it wasn’t practical. It was a nice hotel in the area but we won’t go back and it was expensive for the room we got.

The San Canzian staff does everything so that you feel welcome as a customer. Nothing is too hard to do and every question is kindly answered. They arranged a table for us at a thought-after restaurant where we couldn't get a seat when we called directly and made other reservations for us with an equal attention to detail. The hotel is well done, allowing for a peaceful vacation even having a 5-year old with us as the space allows to spread out. Great attention to detail.

Beautiful location, delicious breakfasts and comfortable, tasteful rooms… but slightly stilted atmosphere. On arrival all seemed great but there seemed to tension between staff that seemed to affect the feel of the place. The concierge lady who greeted us was fabulous and v helpful in organising meals out - great recommendations. A few gripes - water was not provided by the pool, which for a hotel which wants to place itself in a top bracket doesn’t seem right at all. When I asked for my reusable bottle to be filled (with tap water) I was told that they shouldn’t really do that - which seems ridiculous especially from an eco point of view. Another not so great thing - we were in a top room which had fixed temp air conditioning. We asked to adjust the temp to cooler but it was still very hot. Also our adult children had a room which smelt of smoke which wasn’t particularly pleasant as they aren’t smokers. Overall, lovely location, beautiful pool area, wonderful breakfast staff (the ladies) and helpful concierge women too…but lacking in the warmth and hospitality that makes those kind of hotels stand out. Might be an idea for management to brief the male staff about warmth and hospitality.

Very nice hotel! The setting was just beautiful, service fantastic, the pool was lovely and the rooms were very pretty. The rooms are aging a bit, so the crown molding was coming off of the walls, there was dust under the head of the bed where the outlets for charging are located and there was no full length mirror for getting ready. We would definitely stay again because the positives definitely outweighed the negatives.
