Buckle in everyone... I wanted to cover everything... We arrived at R&B in the morning for a 2 week stay, and the check-in was simple & straightforward. We knew we'd not be able to get to our rooms until 2 pm, which was fine. We were given our AI wristbands and tickets for the pool towels. We had packed a grab bag at the top of the suitcase with beach wear, flip-flops & suncream (recommended if you're arriving early). We were able to get changed, get our towels, and were shown to the restaurant for breakfast. We were also able to get our rooms a little earlier, which was great. Rooms: We were in 785 & 775 on the top floor of the older side of the hotel which we really liked. My sister in law had to move rooms after a couple of days due to the power we think to 780. There are no lifts and 3 flights of stairs so be aware when booking if you have any mobility issues. We had requested a high floor for the views and were not disappointed. The rooms in this section are traditional & rustic. Wooden furniture throughout. Large bed with firm mattress & mosquito nets. Large dressing area with large walk in shower (not the most powerful but does the job), open wardrobe (only 3 hangers but I'm sure they'd provide more if asked - we'd taken some), full length mirror, hairdryer (again standard & not the most powerful but ok), & a safe. Cleaning is daily and turn down, mosquito repellent spray & nets closed each evening. Great service. The balcony is open access for all with wooden seating outside each room. We were at the very end so more private. They also decorated the bed with beautiful towel art for my birthday Restaurants: Makuti is the main buffet restaurant serving breakfast 7-10 Live cooking - eggs (any way), crepes Cold buffet - cheese, meat, salads, cereals, fruit, yogurt etc. Hot buffet - changes daily but generally, sausages, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, porridge & much more Lunch 13-14.30 Live cooking - pastas, veggies, pizza etc. Cold buffet - different salads, fruit Hot buffet - changes daily - potatoes, burgers, curries, veggie dishes etc. Dinner 19-21.30 (different theme each evening) Live cooking - meats, fish, seafood, pizza etc. Cold buffet - salads etc Hot buffet - curries, veggie dishes, dishes related to the county theme of the night etc. Italian: Amazing views over the ocean Lunch & dinner - buffet style of similar dishes found in the main restaurant but fewer due to being smaller. Fresh pizzas cooked to order at night (delicious). Booking required for dinner. Indian: Again, amazing views throughout the day and great for a sunset drink. Dinner - Indian buffet style of a 3 day changing menu. Typically, poppadoms, samosas, naan, various curries, rice etc. All very delicious we tried all 3 nights. Booking is required. Great hotel! Delicious food with a wide variety, plus the option to book dinners at the Italian and Indian restaurants is a big highlight. The staff are excellent, special praise for the bar waiters – always friendly and helpful. Everything is spotless, and the evening entertainment makes the stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Jambo. Just back from two weeks at this hotel. I’ve given a 4 , but I’d really give 4.5 if I could. You certainly know you are somewhere different at this hotel. The service is top class from all the staff and the Masai men, everyone is constantly smiling. The jetty is lovely for lying on your lounger looking out to sea, watching the ebb and flow of the tide, you can wander down after 10 am and get a lounger no bother. Food and drink very good and nothing is too much trouble. We had room 755, which had a more rustic feel , which we liked. The monkeys are very entertaining and they are everywhere around the hotel, they come out when it a bit cooler. The hotel is spotlessly clean, even the toilets are clean. You can get taxi’s from outside the hotel to take you anywhere, or the man that owns the shop outside will drive you in his taxi. We enjoyed ourselves and would return. Hakunamatata , Pole Pole.

Reef & Beach Resort is one of those places that makes you slow down — in the best way. It’s worth noting upfront: the journey there takes over an hour from Zanzibar’s airport, and the roads are pretty rugged, so pre-book your shuttle unless you’re ready to negotiate surge-pricing with airport taxis. That said, Zanzibar’s flight schedules are wild (flights land at all hours), and the resort staff is wonderfully accommodating with flexible check-ins. Once you arrive, it’s all smooth sailing. The resort is well-kept and charming — not flashy, but solidly styled and very clean. If you’re doing all-inclusive (which I recommend), the value is great. Bars don’t skimp on the alcohol, and they stock name-brand sodas and spirits — no off-label surprises. The wristband system is straightforward and lasts your whole stay. Rooms in the newer section are excellent: bright, spacious, and designed with ease in mind. Think: panoramic sea views, plenty of seating, ample storage, and good mosquito netting options. The air conditioning worked well during my stay, which meant restful sleep was never an issue. Special shoutout to the jetty — an oasis for lazy lounging or watching the tide roll in. And unexpectedly, one of the best things? The shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom — actual quality products you’ll want to use, not skip. All in all, a great base for beachy downtime in Zanzibar — just plan your airport transport smartly.
