Cerritos Beach Hotel Desert Moon

There were some good things. The staff is kind, and it’s very close to the beach, but the value is terrible. It was noisy downstairs so they let us move up. No water for 2 of our days. The electricity kept going out and the microwave was broken. We were told we’d get a 15% refund for all that went wrong, but we’ve yet to hear anymore about that.

A one night stay turned to 4. We're a couple in our late 50's traveling with a dog. The staff and owners were engaging and fun. The location can't be beat. It sits atop an unpretentious and beautiful beach with a good vibe from the locals. The rooftop breakfast, bar and pool area were perfect to get your day started or end a long one. The artsy decor and furnishings were lovely. It's a short walk to a few restaurants (I recommend Kimberly's Market for pizza). Keep in mind this is Mexico, there are bugs... You want a sterile room with a concrete jungle around you, stay in Cabo.

BEST HOTEL. I absolutely loved everything about this hotel. The hotel has an amazing beach vibe like Cerritos does. It's close to the beach, has good food, a great pool and an amazing bar as well as rooftop. Rooms are very big. Really recommend this hotel!

Just returned from a 7-night stay here. We found this hotel to be comfortable and convenient with a friendly staff. The rooms are simple, but include a dining table and kitchen with a full-sized fridge, cooktop, coffee maker, and microwave. The beds were comfortably firm and we slept very well. The AC was more than cold enough. This hotel is ideal for those who want to be close to the main surf break in Los Cerritos, which is where all the action is (a restaurant, surfboard and umbrella rentals). If you're the sort of person who is happy having all the basics and doesn't mind things being a little rough around the edges, this place will work for you. If you are "high-maintenance" and expect everything to be perfect this is NOT the place for you. Here are some particulars on what to expect: STAIRS - This hotel is on a hillside and there are lots of stairs. Even if you have a room at the bottom of the complex, the restaurant, bar, and pool are at the top, so you will have to climb stairs. FYI - the penthouse rooms are above the bar, so they have the most steps from the bottom. PARKING - On the dirt road at the bottom of the complex. There is usually plenty of parking, but if you show up on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, it may be tricky finding a close space because this is a popular area for beach parking, and weekends are busy. Spaces open-up again in the evening. VIEWS - Yes, there is a half-built building (no present construction) that blocks part of the view, but you still have great views of the full length of Playa Cerritos. BREAKFAST - A very basic breakfast is included daily... scrambled eggs with ham, huevos rancheros, or quesadillas, each with refried beans and tortillas. Basic omelettes and drinks are available for purchase. RESTAURANT - They currently are not open for lunch. They are open for dinner and have a new chef who started last week. We had dinner here two nights and it was quite good. I liked the Mixta Salad and the Fajitas. BUGS - there was the occasional roach in the kitchen. We kept things clean, put all the food in the fridge, and twisted the garbage bags shut at night, and this seemed to minimize the "visits". INTERNET - Wifi in the rooms was adequate, though it would come-and-go a little. I usually could get a good TelCel (GSM) signal outside for AT&T roaming... it was very good out the back door of the hotel room. RESERVATIONS - The best rate I found was on their website. It took them a few days to get back to me... I eventually had to call them. But I saved over $200 so it was worth it. The bottom line is that this place is well-priced for what you get, and very convenient to the beach.

This is a unique place in a great location. We were very happy with our stay and would stay there again because it is right by the beach and surf spot. There are patios outside of the rooms where you can see the ocean and the rooms have small kitchens if you want to cook. Bring your own bottles water! A small menu of cooked to order breakfasts is included along with coffee. Juice costs extra. What I would say to expect/could use improving is the upkeep on the rooms- the sliding doors and locks stick. Some of the chairs on the patio were broken and not able to be sat on. Rooms need more towels (although beach and bath towels are provided- just not enough for the amount of people in the room). Breakfast and coffee are not available until 8:30 which is later than we would have liked. Overall a great stay and a cool hotel but could use a little more maintenance and it would likely be all 5 star reviews- a little bit of maintenance goes a long way.

We were very disapointed with our stay at Desert Moon. We are a family of three and booked a room with a king size bed and sofa bed for our daughter. While setting up the sofa bed, the bed was not able to open to the full position as it seemed it was previously broken. It was late in the evening and there was no one to address our issue with the sofa bed. Our daughter had a very uncomfortable sleep. After checking out we received a charge on our credit card. After contacting about the additional charge of $300 Canadian on our credit card, they told us that it was because they said we broke the sofa bed. As it is difficult to prove this situation, a heads up to all guests to check your room for anything that maybe broken or missing to avoid any additional charges.
