Because I was planning on arriving late, I’d informed them of this via email and received a reply immediately saying that was no issue. Great initial comms.
Although the front door is huge, it wasn’t instantly obvious that was where I needed to go as it was closed and not particularly well lit. It could benefit from a sign!
I was quickly helped at reception by a lovely assistant who was helpful and processed me quickly. Off to my room I went. What a beautiful building! I was in room number 1 which I investigated quickly. A slightly bizarre layout in the bathroom amused me. The shelf was randomly placed as far away as possible from the sink, which was where it logically needed to be. Not to worry, it was all clean and in working condition.
Not so good was the bed. When I sat on it, there was a lot of creaking and it felt as if it was on a tilt. It was also as if I was sat on a board, not a mattress. Closer inspection revealed a 4” thick mattress which I was able to compress to virtually nothing, simply with my hand. I took the rare decision to call reception and request a room change. The same assistant was really helpful and was able to find me a replacement room. The second room was significantly better and I had a good nights rest.
Breakfast was lovely,
10/10 for the staff. Every one I encountered was lovely. It was just the bed which let things down. The lady on reception did inform me that she had passed on my comments to management.
