I overnighted in the city following a medical procedure and the Premier Inn was the cheapest and best option at the time of booking. Ideally I would have stayed at another of their locations a few miles away as this was nearer to where I needed to be, however this was more expensive at the time of booking, but came down in price nearer the date (overall it wasn’t much more in the end with taxi fares considered) and I took advantage of a free breakfast offer through booking direct with the company. It was a little pricey for a ‘budget’ chain at £82 for a non-flex room, but generally the best option for what I needed and was a Saturday night booking. When I checked in there were no receptionists visible and I had to use the self-service check-in which was okay, but unfortunately my key card didn’t work and was on one of the top floors. The lifts had a fault that meant they ran slower than usual, which caused a small delay but once I returned to the lobby I was able to get help from the staff. Once I did manage to get into the room, everything was clean, amenities and choice of pillows available and walk-in shower. Great view of the railway station sidings from my west-facing room window and city from the south side corridor. I had dinner in the on-site restaurant and took advantage of the £16 two-courses and a drink deal, no pre-booking necessary. The waiting staff were very friendly and the food was great, you get what you pay for but very good value in these times! Next morning breakfast was a very generous all-you-can-eat buffet with Full English, cereals, pastries etc included in my booking as part of the offer I used, again all the food was nice and the staff were super friendly. Many thanks to everyone at the hotel for a lovely stay!
