Apple Tree Inn

So I read a lot of bad reviews on here before we came and was a bit concerned, but the point is, you need to know what you’re booking when you book it. This is a bed and breakfast, not a high end hotel. It is quaint, adorable, the grounds have beautiful views and the Sunday brunch was on point. The chef and his wife were incredible. Saturday night music was also on point and bar service was top notch. We didn’t eat dinner there, but I heard from other guests it was also really good. A few things to note when you book - there is a lodge that houses most of the rooms. This is because again, this is an “inn” or “bed and breakfast”. The main house can’t accommodate a ton of guests which makes sense. The lodge is very minimalist rooms. There isn’t any charm or character to them, but beds are comfy and it’s clean. I read reviews saying rooms weren’t clean but ours was great (and I’m picky). We weren’t in Lenox to stay in our room, plus the main house amenities were still fully utilized by us so I could have cared less about staying in the lodge versus main house. There’s Adirondack chairs, a fire pit, and a pool at this property making it even more cozy and quaint. It’s close to downtown Lenox, but you’ll still probably need a vehicle - we did. Downtown is super cute with shops and restaurants. I’m so glad we stayed at Apple Tree Inn!

On Wednesday nights in October Colby Lewis play with one of his partners. Great music and great food. We had been to Apple Tree when the previous owners ran it and this was a far superior experience. The new owner Claire is really working hard to make sure guests have a wonderful experience!

The Apple Tree Inn is a charming inn owned by a lovely young couple. Live music Wednesday and Friday in the Ostrich Room pub, with delicious food and craft cocktails. Can’t beat the convenience of being able to walk to Tanglewood . Stayed twice this summer and can’t wait to return.

This “resort”should be shut down immediately. We were given rooms in the lodge and were shocked by the decrepit condition of the rooms. Air conditioning unit loud and not very cool. Thank goodness it wasn’t very warm outside. Mold and dirt in the bathroom on the floor and the heater unit. But most troubling is that we saw several electrical outlets coming out of the wall in our room and in the public hallway. Really? Code violations galore. Oh and don’t believe what the website says about every room having frette linens. Not exactly. No housekeeping service with no explanation upon check in. The additional resort fee charged per night just adds insult to injury. The property is set on a beautiful lot with great views and the main inn building is funky and cool though there was never anyone at the desk to greet or answer questions though there was a phone number you could call to get someone to come. Really disappointed with our experience here.

This house is apparently the old Astor estate. It is perfectly located, across the street from the Tanglewood parking lots. The common rooms are beautiful, elegant and comfortable, the pool also beautiful. Breakfast was continental and quite good. Our bed was soooo comfortable, as advertised. There are rooms in the main house and the nearby "Lodge." Now the not so good stuff. The website shows photographs of the rooms. Our room in the Lodge in no way resembled the photos. It was dingy, gray, brown, furniture was damaged and scratched. The ceiling and walls were dirt yellow with patched plaster all over. Sadly in need of paint, upgraded furniture and decent lighting. I was afraid to put any of my clothes in the closets--so dark and dingy. Bathroom was fine with a damaged sink cabinet. The good news is that the maid cleaned it so well. This room (and I have no idea how many others--we did see open doors with rooms that looked exactly like the Lodge BR photos) should not be rented for the $250/night we paid....or at all until it is renovated. I have stayed in B&Bs and Inns all over the world, including 3rd world countries. No room as dingy and in such disrepair as this room. If they hand you the keys to 211, simply decline and run!! I have forewarned the staff of this review. A great place in a great location with at least one disgusting room that should never rented again in that condition.

The inn is pretty. More like 3.5 stars. Beautiful view. Very friendly staff. The room is clean, sparse, but definitely fine for a short stay. Comfortable bed and linens. Bathroom could use a shelf for toiletries. Nowhere in the bathroom to put toothpaste, razor, anything: had to leave everything in the room. As others mentioned hall has a sweet incense smell which is gross, but the room did not have this smell. Breakfast is minimal but fine except that maybe they are short staffed - took long to refill coffee and food. Basically there was a crowd waiting around at 9 am as if they didn’t anticipate it (inn was not sold out). My wife was finished eating by the time I got back to the table after waiting. There was toast, berries, hard boiled eggs, melon, plain Greek yogurt, granola. No room cleaning until you check out.

We were thrilled with our choice for only a one night stay in the area. We typically prefer Bed & Breakfast type inns when available and this was one of the best we ever experienced. Our room was great, beautiful common spaces, the views (especially from the dining room where breakfast was provided as part of the stay) were awesome, great location to experience all the attractions in the region, fantastic swimming pool and lounging deck…and welcoming staff led by new owner Claire. This will definitely be our “go to place” when we are back in the Berkshires.

If you're planning a trip to the Berkshires, the Apple Tree Inn is the ONE place you should stay. It's a beautiful inn on top of a hill, just across from Kripalu. It's the exact opposite of a cookie-cutter corporate hotel. There are antiques. fireplaces, nooks and crannies, and spectacular views everywhere. It is bright, fresh and comfortable, and the owner, Claire, is warm and welcoming. I feel like she's my new best friend. Our charming room on the second floor had a bed that was so comfortable that it was difficult to get up every morning. When I did, I looked out my window to the morning clouds over the green mountains. The Berkshires feels like they're untouched by civilization. Breakfast was in the rotunda...and started with a happy "good morning" from Claire. We ate warm muffins and croissants, fresh fruit, and sipped strong coffee. For us, this was an anniversary weekend that reminded us how much we love each other. That's the magic of the Apple Tree Inn.

My best friend and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the lovely Apple Tree Inn. My friend had warned me not to expect too much based on past Trip Advisor reviews but we did not know that the inn had very recently purchased by new owners, Claire and her husband Toph. They are truly the perfect couple to run an inn - extremely personable, helpful, and accommodating. The inn is charming- lots of beautiful antiques, comfortable furniture, fireplaces on the main floor. We took advantage of the tea / coffee / hot chocolate station. The room we stayed in was sunny with 2 very comfortable beds and fabulous linens. There are also a variety of rooms with different features. Had a lovely breakfast buffet with homemade muffins, fresh fruit, juice, granola, yogurt and other items served in an unusual round room overlooking the gorgeous grounds. Took a quick look at the pool area which we understand is soon to open. The restaurant (not yet open) is in a former billiard room that is really quite beautiful. We love this inn and cannot wait to return!
