Our first stay at the LaQuinta in Lindale, TX, was in December of 2021, and I can’t believe this is even the same hotel that I wrote such a glowing review for afterward. We travel back and forth, 2 or 3 times a year, from Mississippi to Colorado, so I’m totally on the look-out for go-to hotels on the trip. I originally thought I’d found just that in this LaQuinta, but unfortunately, I fully and finally decided otherwise. We’ve stayed here 5 or 6 times now and each time it seems to get a little worse. This current stay reminded me of the reasons why on our previous trip we’d switched to the newer/nicer Comfort Suites right next door. Honestly, I booked this LaQuinta this time because it was a good price, but sometimes it’s just not worth it to save a few bucks. We spent a very unpleasant night there last night. First, I’ll say that Susan at the front desk when we checked in was pleasant and helpful. She tried. We were given room Room 219, and immediately after exiting the elevator on the 2nd floor my husband commented on how musty the hallway smelled. So I guess we shouldn’t have been surprised when we saw a dehumidifier running in the hallway right outside the room next to ours. As soon as we entered the room the musty smell was even stronger. I kicked off my sandals and I swear, the carpeting was damp under my feet. I picked up the phone and called the front desk - the phone itself was very gross with what looked like mildew on it. I was a little disappointed that the front desk had no idea why there was a dehumidifier in the hallway or if anything out of the ordinary had happened up there. Shouldn’t they be aware of any and all maintenance situations regarding the rooms they’re assigning to people? But Susan immediately offered 2 different rooms and said we should look at them to see which one we wanted. Sounded promising. First I went into Room 315…still a musty smell, but not quite as bad as Room 219. (The 3rd floor hallway itself had less of an odor.) I thought I’d check out Room 303, the other room offered, since it was at the gar end of the hallway so I thought maybe I’d have even better luck there. Well, that room had a different smell - a little like ammonia. I don't want to say urine, but it was yucky in another way. And oh yeah, there was a bug (a live and moving earwig) in the bathtub. I’m thinking this place just has a problem with moisture! So we chose Room 315, the lesser of 2 evils and once we got in and settled it was obvious that we just weren't going to get a nice clean, fresh-smelling, pleasant room at this hotel. I don't think they exist. Everything about this room, and it seems every other room, is old and tired. And honestly, a little bit yucky. The entire make-up can be best described as sloppy. What do you think of the washcloth hanging in the bathroom? Pretty classy. And there was a lightbulb burnt out in a lamp. Maybe not a big deal, but really, no excuse for something like that. The toilet, which was old and wo
