Palácio do Visconde - the Coffee Experience

Our room and indeed the whole hotel was immaculate, spacious bright and welcoming. All the staff without exception were so attentive and friendly we really did enjoy chatting to them so much. The restaurant too was excellent to the extent that we dined there three times as the menu was so interesting. In fact I believe far better that anything we found in the city , this really was an excellent hotel

I am 2 days into a 6 day stay with family. Beautiful restored palace with architectural details and original paintings. Very welcoming presentation and tour by reception. Wonderful breakfast. There is a coffee roaster in the property. This is a 5 star experience for 3 star prices. I highly recommend staying here. Great location.

My wife and I had a long weekend in Lisbon and stayed in the Don Carlos junior suite of the hotel. The room was on the first floor, overlooking the road. We were just above the level of the tram roof when it passed.Fortunately the original shutters were in place and kept street noise to a minimum.But we enjoyed the sight of the tram coming up ther hill. The suite was spacious, but minimally furnished which accentated its spaciousness. It could have done with additional storage and seating. The double bed was a good king size with an excellent firm mattress, plenty of pillows so we enjoyed a good night's sleep. The restoration work was evident in the quality plaster work of the ceiling and the chandelier. The bathroom was similarly spacious but again needed more storage surfaces around the washbasin area. Some seating would also have been appreciated. Most of all , for a couple, a single washand basin was inadequate. The lighting was also inadequte for a lady to make up in the evening. The shower worked well but the whole enclosure could have easily accommodated a bath. Surprisingly, given the overall quality of the finishing and art work, one had the impression that minor fittings had been overlooked - loose taps, doorhandles and towel rails. However, when these details were pointed out to management, the remedial action was immediate! On arrival, we were received with a most courteous detailed introduction to the hotel. One to remember. This courtesy was replicated by all reception staff who were super helpful. Breakfast was excellent but some of the waiting staff maybe lacked some training. At first we thought the location a bit down market but soon discovered we were very close to main streets, and were able to walk with ease down to Chiada. It was a real bonus to meet the owners. Their willingness to talk about the hotel"project" was honest, interesting and helpful.They were keen to get feedback and build this into ongoing development. 10/10 for this!

You never really know what to expect from a website and reviews but this hotel really did live up to all expectations and more! Beautiful old building tastefully restored with elegance and charm. The rooms are wonderful and our friends who had street facing rooms had no issues with noise. The staff are all wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are amazing and the restaurant dinners exceptional for the price. Breakfast was of course mini pastel del nata, mini doughnuts or another mini apple/jam sponge, warm rolls, croissants, hams and cheese, honey and jams, granola and yoghurt and a bowl of fresh fruit, or, teas and coffees of all kinds! There is an extensive wine list and cocktail menu. It is spotless too with daily room service. There is a lovely garden where you can eat in warmer weather. One of our group like to have tea and coffee in their room which is something they could consider. I was on crutches and offered a lift to reception but I could manage stairs so I was OK. It’s great having the infamous 28 tram stop outside the hotel but it does get very busy so suggest an early start. We sadly missed the coffee tour as it wasn’t on when we were free so will just have to go back!

Choosing the place for our last night in Portugal dinner fell to the Palacio. These four Canadians from Ottawa were not disappointed with an incredible menu served by friendly and professional staff. Rita, the owner, was gracious enough to visit our table and tell the story of how her and her husband lovingly restored this fabulous building. Although we didn't stay in any of the rooms, there is no doubt time spent would have been world class based on our dinner experience. Bravo and thank you for such lasting memories.

At the end of a four week trip around Europe this was our splurge. Fabulous hotel, friendly and helpful staff, sumptuous breakfast. Rooms are spacious and light filled with opening windows, bed linen was as soft as petals! So yum to curl up and sleep in. Cleaning service came each day which was a lovely bonus. We had an issue with a noisy street side room the first night however staff were quick to rectify this and moved us to a quieter one the next morning.
