Red Lion Inn

Came into the red lion with my daughter to celebrate my birthday. Everything was fine until I noticed how much the landlord was drinking and sat on his own. Pub was reasonably busy and we enjoyed a nice meal. My daughter noticed voices getting louder in the pub over a small thing about hours over a current worker. Then out of the blue the aggressive behaviour of the landlord, the shouting and rudeness was very uncalled for and showed a complete lack of professionalism and respect for other guests on a matter so small and I felt sorry for the couple getting the barrage of abuse!!...clearly the landlord had too much to drink.... Rest assured we won't be going back!!

I don't know who is writing good reviews about the food and hospitality at this place. Went for a weekend meal and drink after visiting the area. Food was poor. Microwaved, poor quality. Complained and got told there was nothing wrong with it. Landlord and landlady obviously had been drinking heavily. He was drinking spirits from a coffee cup !!!

Called in after a long day travelling around. A simply wonderful country pub with great food and great staff. We were welcomed from the moment we went in and the food was very, very good. Anyone staying nearby please visit. You will not be disappointed.

We always enjoy our meals and drinks here and staff always welcoming. Food very good. Sunday lunch was very nice and hubbie loves the gammon. A new, young member of staff, Harrison, was great today. Polite, pleasant and helpful. Thank you for your service Harrison!

Not the best….. The couple running the place were clearly intoxicated, the woman was bumping into tables, knocking over drinks and was slurring her words and the man pouring what looked like whisky or rum into his coffee cup under the bar where he assumed no one could see! The food was below average. Awful starter of garlic mushrooms which were sent back. Raw mushrooms in a vinegar milky sauce served with bread. (The bread being the best bit) my partner had the black pudding stack which he said was ok. Main courses were cheese and onion pie which was delicious! Nice chunky chips and crispy chicken burger which wasn’t the best. Cheap frozen chicken in breadcrumbs on a dry bap. We were looking forward to dining here but were very disappointed. This pub is situated in a lovely picturesque village and could be amazing. Tonight it wasn’t………

Our group agreed to meet at the red lion for a light lunch. We ordered and received our drinks. After about half of the group had given our food orders a member of staff came out of the kitchen and said the did nor have sufficient staff to supply us with food. However as we were finishing our drinks the member of staff had time to have what looked like a cup of coffee in the bar and spend time talking with the waitress. The least hospitable venue I have encountered in my 85 years.
