Hôtel le Cantou 354

We stopped into Hotel le Cantou for a night on our hiking tour. This was probably the best stop on our hike. The room, albeit small was adequate, had kettle with coffee/tea making, bathrobes and best of all for me, Sothys bath products! We also had dinner and breakfast here and the food was great. The "point" system for the dinner menu choices was unique and generous. Chris was charming and attentive to his guests. We were shown the gardens where we could walk and explore but due to over grown grass and lack of seating, we admired it from the road.

Set in a simply beautiful hill top village the hotel doesn't really advertise its name so you have to look for it. But boy is it worth the effort. I write as a dog owner so am reviewing from that point. The owner manager is a dog owner (of the delightful Scarlett) so understands all about how good it is to have a ground floor room with garden access! Our dog friendly room was as close to the garden as you could get and whilst it wouldn't be described as luxurious it was all you'd ever ask for with a decent sized well equipped bathroom. The highlight of Le Cantou 354 is undoubtedly the restaurant with the owners Christophe and Romain a close second and the food is heavenly. Coupled with a pretty good wine list as well. The restaurant is perhaps eccentrically styled but it works really well and there is a sense of occasion with stunning views (and sunsets from the corner table). The dogs were allowed in without a murmur which isn't always the case now in France. Breakfast is self service and there's a good selection of the usual tasty french fare. The staff without exception are happy, helpful and polite.

We highly recommend this hotel. Don’t understand why it receives only a two star. Other than the fact that the rooms don’t have air conditioning. The rooms are small and very simple, but very clean and have great views. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel restaurant is very good and we recommend eating there. The breakfast that is included with the room is good. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and attentive.
