The Marquette Hotel

"For the independent traveler" is code for absolutely no customer service. I emailed twice about my reservation before I arrived and never got an email back. This should have let me know what kind of place this was. Sure, the hotel room is clean and it has some great IKEA furniture, but the walls are thin and the drunk college students will keep you up all night walking up and down the stairs. There are apparently quiet hours, but who is going to enforce them, especially when they can't be bothered to respond to emails? I would have knocked to ask my neighbors' to be quiet, but as a woman traveling alone, it doesn't feel safe. This whole place seems like a tech bro had an idea about how to make AirBnB worse. It's obvious they don't have employees so they can make money, and your sleep suffers. Basically, I'd recommend this place to someone I didn't care for. They'll think it is nice and then they'll be unable to sleep for their whole stay. There's a reason you can't cancel after 48 hours after booking ---(which seems like an absolutely absurd policy in the post-COVID world)---it is so when you email with questions closer to your reservation arrival and no one responds, you'll be stuck with the bill and forced to stay unless you want to be out of money (at least that's how I felt).

This would have been a good stay except for a few poor notes. 1. No close street parking and building construction going on right out of our window with heavy equipment noises that woke us up at 7 am. 2. Extremely simple/somewhat dated room and furnishings. Nice Smart TV, though. 3. I left a book; softcover and less than 200 pages by mistake. Owner charged me over $28 to return without sending me an "estimate" before he did so as he said he would. I had asked him to send it media mail and he did not. I would not choose to stay here. There are many more options in Madison. Look for them!

When all you need is a room, this is perfect. Less than a mile walk to the Sylvee, plenty of little shops all around it. No kids running to a pool. Only minus right now is that the construction across the street will be an early wake up call ʘ⁠‿⁠ʘ I went down for coffee early in the morning on a Tuesday, about 7:30. There were some pastries set up and coffee but nobody in there Easiest check in I've ever had, they give you the code right on your phone couple days before your trip you're all set no issues whatsoever room was absolutely perfect

Just a terrible stay at this place. Unclean, weird smells, cheap outfitting, and zero ability to reach any staff. So many lovely places to stay in Madison and we had the unfortunate luck to pick this one.
