Gateway Madurai

The hotel sadly as and is a big let down. We arrived to find rooms were not ready so they sat us in the restaurant expecting you to order food and drinks whilst you waited. It was a considerable amount of time for them to bring a tea and coffee for the two of us, wasn't sure if this was because we didn't order food. The restaurant was very clean and presentable so no faults there but reiterating the service was unbearably slow. All the staff couldn't be anymore helpful or pleasant so no faults there. Our room however wasn't up to a great standard. The air-conditioning made the room smell extremely musty and unpleasant. The windows had been painted over so you couldn't see out nor could you open them. We ended up having to prop the door wide open to try air the room. Water was pouring out of the light fitting just outside the entrance of our room and it must be noted it wasn't raining outside. I personally found the room bearable aesthetically if you didn't look too closely at anything. The rest of the hotel and grounds I have to be honest are a disgrace. Filthy, neglected, and extremely run down are the words worthy of honest opinion. We sat outside the restaurant for a drink as this was the only place to go at 3pm we were told, Relaxing this was not. The chairs extremely filthy and the atmosphere horrendous. Work was been carried out on the floors above the restaurant and the noise was continuous and loud. We did have a peacock come and join us which was a pleasant surprise. Mini bar in our room had a can of tonic a bottle of fizzy water and a toblerone bar. Drinks however extremely overpriced the dearest in all the hotels we have stopped in whilst travelling around India. The food was acceptable but again not as enjoyable as other hotels that we experienced on our travels. Would we come back here most probably not sad to say as the building and grounds could be absolutely stunning a big let down. The pictures say it all

I had booked two colonial rooms for 3nights at gateway Taj Madurai. I was pleasantly surprisedon my arrival to see not only staff but also greeted by peacocks. Trust me never seen so many peacocks fearlessly roaming around in the entire place. Very huge resort amidst the nature. It is on pasumalai. Hills. Mr. Sahu chef was very helpful and friendly person. Housekeeping manager Mr.manas was also cheerful and pleasant person. Mr. Das a. Trainee in the resort was helpful. r

Very smooth check in and check out process, room cleanliness is highly impressive, very testy food with moderate amount of spices feels like homemade food. Ambience is fantastic. Overall stay is very comfortable. And about the staff, they are very friendly, polite and helpful in all aspects. They make our stay very comfortable and it forces us to me to come next time to enjoy hospitality of Taj MADURAI.

Our stay at Taj Pasumalai was pleasant, comfortable and warm. Taj has always been my favorite due to hospitality and the customer centric behaviour of staff. Right from front office staff Soby who has helped us for a smooth check-in, Ram who has facilitated with cab and temple trip, Reception staff who greeted us with warm smile and the woman who made me comfortable while making Rangoli by giving me cushions. If I don't mention name of Venkat Sai, my trip wouldn't be complete and it wouldn't be fair on my part. When we were struggling to choose from the menu, he has suggested nice, yummy, healthy and flavourful South Indian dishes to satiate our appetite. He has shown that extra care to help us in choosing menu during our lunch and dinner. He is a boon to hospitality sector who cares for guests the way we treat guests at home. He is a true testimony to Indian & Philosophy of Taj "Atidhi Devo Bhava". Kim and other staff in the restaurant hosted us well with perfect Nimbu soda and last but not least, the Adai Amma who served us with crispy adais with Pirandai Chutney. I recommend stay at Taj Pasumalai to all those who visit Madurai. Taj has made my trip seamless and memorable. I cherish this experience. And the photo frame remains as a memory in my drawing room. Taj has turned my otherwise scorching summer trip as a breezy, pleasant one!
