Sumus Hotel Monteplaya & Spa 4Sup - Adults Only

I have to say, I am really conflicted writing this review. There are some really fantastic elements of this hotel, and to the other extreme, there are some real disappointments. I would add that the majority of the disappointments are down to the creative marketing photographs and text by TUI. So, I will start with the really good points, as these are stand out from anywhere we have stayed previously. 1. Restaurant - The food is probably the best of any all inclusive hotel we have stayed at. It is high quality and the stand outs were the fish, calamari and Serano ham. All of these were absolutely beautiful. The real stand out though are the restaurant staff. They are all so friendly and really make you feel special. A huge shout out to Elena who is an absolute superstar and made us, as well as many others feel really special. We looked forward to going for our meals just to be greeted by her. She is a real asset to the hotel and deserves all of the credit she gets. 2. Room Cleanliness - The rooms are really clean and cleaned every day by lovely staff. Everything is absolutely spotless. 3. The bar staff to a limited extent. Julian made us feel really welcome from day one and looked after us whenever he was there. He always came to us when we were sat in the outside area and remembered what we drank and was always really friendly. He was stand out, but take note... to be continued below more generally around the bar service. 4. The pack up breakfast that they give you if you are checking out early in the morning. It is lovely and contains a sandwich, cake, fruit, juice and a bottle of water, all in a tote bag. This is a lovely touch, Now the bad points - sorry :-( 1. Rooms not ready until 2pm. We arrived at the hotel at around 10am, only to be told that the rooms would not be ready until 2pm and the all inclusive would not start until 11am. Not ideal when it is baking hot and you are really tired and thirsty. Again, I lay more of this at TUIs door as this could be better communicated and planned in advance. 2. The pool - This is very small compared to the "creative" photographs that TUI put on their site and app. This is the first thing that you see when you enter the complex and it makes your heart sink. 3. Sunbeds and sunbed areas. Again, "creative" photography from TUI. On the photos, they show well spaced out sunbeds around the pool, when actually most of the sunbeds are squashed in an area down the side of the hotel, with little room in between. 4. Surroundings. This was the biggest disappointment and I fully appreciate that there is not much the hotel can do about this. The hotel is right on the main road and open to all and sundry. There is no real security there. The hotel is flanked on one side by what looks like a five story apartment block which overlooks the sunbeds and pool area and feels lacking any privacy at all. The other side of the hotel is flanked by the Reymar notel which would seem to accommodate primarily club 18-30 with

Nice hotel but weather not on our side so couldn’t use all the facility’s. Reception staff not all friendly. But bar and restaurant staff were excellent. Spa is nice but an additional 15 euros which is fine but no changing rooms or sunbed/chairs in there. Heated beds but only 4 and when we visited a couple decided to use those beds the whole session by putting there things on them! Cocktails not the best. Have outside the hotel. Location good and easily can get the train to Barcelona and Girona. Breakfast very good but chaotic with the amount of people and it’s not high season.

Great choice of food, pleasant staff. Staff helpful when we needed assistance. The tall. young barman in the bistro/bar was authentically kind, caring, and helpful throughout our stay. For first time travellers to Spain he made our stay extra special.

Best customer service ever. Lovely staff, beds, food and facilities. Area around hotel isn’t the most scenic, but there’s a local train to Barcelona, and the hotel stay is worth the sacrifice. The evening entertainment was very good, especially local musicians performing folk music.

Overall the room, facilities, cleanliness and staff were excellent. Elena in restaurant was very welcoming and friendly as were reception and cleaning staff. Only 2 complaints: scrambled egg cold. Counter at rear of restaurant not properly heated. Potatoes on said counter at dinner were also cold. Reported to chef but did not resolve during my stay. Second issue no early breakfast facility available for early departure for excursions or airport. Other hotels open part of restaurant and supply hot and cold drinks and continental style breakfast. Travelled at 8am by transfer to Barcelona airport on an empty stomach. Fellow passenger from Reymar hotel was given breakfast and a packed lunch on her departure!

Nice and clean hotel, friendly staff. Food was very nice and the waiters were very attentive. The Spa within the hotel is definitely worth a visit and I highly recommend the treatments. The only thing that lets this hotel down is some of the guests that were there when we were. Sun bed wars most mornings, reserving sun beds at 6 am then not using them until after breakfast. We spent the majority of the time at the beach to avoid the drama.

The hotel was immaculate, staff , waiters, waitresses, reception were all very welcoming and helpful. All staff and cleaners were professional, they always greeted you with a smile. The pool was cleaned regularly and discreetly. Ambient music played daily, evening entertainment started at 9am. Could not fault this hotel, we would definitely recommend it and go again. Thank you to all the staff, we have had a lovely holiday with you .

Returning guests. This year very disappointed. Housekeeping did not remove dirty glasses and didn't replenish tea coffee etc in our room. On a very quiet Sunday evening the barman took our order on his tablet and the order never arrived. The night before again barman took our order at the bar as we don't seem to get table service if all inclusive guests he put the order on his tablet and it took over half an hour to arrive. It's becoming very clear if you are a paying guest instead of all inclusive you get priority, table service and treated differently Obviously tips are an important priority to them

Great holiday in a great hotel, staff throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful & pleasant. The hotel is always clean and tidy, the rooms are comfortable and maintained daily, always clean and tidy. The food is great with plenty of choice. Really enjoyed our two weeks 👍
