Honest review of a 3 star AI hotel in Stalis. It should be pointed out from the start that the Koni village is a proper 3 star hotel and has no pretentious to be anything else and as such it should be judged as such, if it’s a 4 or 5 star experience hotel you are looking for then clearly this won’t be the place for you, but if you want an honest, good value option then I would not hesitate to recommend this place. Rooms: here’s where we got lucky! We were allocated room 704 , which is a first floor ( of 3) directly overlooking the main pool and it was very modern, clean and decently furnished. However some other guests did tell us that there rooms were somewhat dated and in need of a re-furb, but that they were perfectly adequate. Room was serviced every day and towels changed also. Food and drink: this seems to be the area which causes most poor reviews and I have to say we went with some apprehension, however we were pleasantly surprised! It was , again for a 3 star establishment, decent quality! Yes like most AI in this price range it’s a fairly limited choice, but not once did we struggle to find anything to eat. Is it as good a quality and service as you can get in some of the quality tavernas in the resort? No, but again that shouldn’t be expected, but it’s far better than the reviews I have seen. We rarely did lunch here as we were out and about but the rare occasions we did it was on a par with the dinner service. Drinks are okay, the local beer was more than okay to be fair, local spirits, which are as you would expect as was the wine!!! Cocktails aren’t really cocktails either!! We again didn’t use this too much as we were out a lot, but it seemed in line with the hotel ratings to me. Facilities: the main pool area is large and well maintained with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. We also never had to do the early morning dash for a spot, which can be so common unfortunately. However whether this would be different in high season I’m not so sure? Small kids pool and play area , but no kids club here and the overall entertainment is very low key, so not sure it’s a totally kids environment. Location: so the elephant in the room.. the hill!!! Yes without doubt it’s something to contend with. It is a fairly short but steep climb from the hotel entrance to the pool area and rooms, particularly if your allocated one of the blocks at the rear of the hotel and if you have any mobility issues then it would be a real problem. For us it was manageable, though on a hot day it can “ take your breath away” but overall it didn’t become a non starter for returning here. The hotel is located alongside the main road, which is not overly busy and certainly isn’t too noisy within the hotel grounds. A 10 min walk into Stalis via two underpasses and a safe area for walking. The staff here are a very small team and work long hours but are very pleasant and helpful, be respectful and courteous to them and you will get it back in bucket loads. O
