* Hotel Floréal sits above an Italian restaurant in the center of Malmedy. If the restaurant is closed when you arrive, there's no reception—just a door code and a key box. It works, but the lack of staff presence gives the place a disconnected feel. To speak to someone, you have to use Snapchat. * The rooms are basic, and there's no air conditioning, which made our room stuffy and uncomfortable. We had to change rooms three times to find one that was quiet and cool enough to sleep in. Once settled, all was OK. *The location is excellent; you're right downtown. *The bright spot was the included breakfast. Once we let management know when we’d be down, everything was set. The meal was generous, fresh, and satisfying. The young woman running breakfast was welcoming and attentive—by far the best part of the stay. * In short: the location is convenient, the rooms are hit-or-miss, and the breakfast is excellent. Worth considering if you're traveling light and don't mind minimal service.
