Elewana Sand River Masai Mara

This camp was luxurious and beautiful. We stayed 2 nights in October but wish we could've stayed longer. All staff and security were so so friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. There were refreshments on offer throughout the day, including fresh coffee and cake before your game drives. The style of the camp was high end with comfortable spaces to relax, with a stunning pool area with views of the river. A bonfire each night. The food and service were impeccable. Our waiter, Patrick, was very kind and attentive. Nicolene (the manager) also took the time to chat with us each night and has even provided us recommendations for our next trip! The chef prepared lunch for us one day so we could have a picnic in the Masai, this was really high quality. The tents were absolutely gorgeous, with an outside shower and bath that we used. Hot water and bath salts provided. There was even a hot water bottle waiting for me when I got into bed... I have never experienced such attention to detail. The photos of this camp absolutely represent what we experienced. Security escort you back to your tent due to animals roaming the camp at night. This was a little nerve-racking but all part of the experience. Animals are attracted to the river and one morning we were woken up by about 25 elephants eating on the other side of the river - a simply spectacular sight. This camp was a once in a life time experience with animal noises in the night. The location is superb on the river bordering Tanzania. The Masai Mara game drives were the best, we saw most animals including the big 5, leopards and cheetahs! The scenery was green and beautiful, the sun sets behind the camp as you head in from your evening game drive... Just wow. Thank you Elewana camp and staff :) Emma and Callum x

An amazing place to stay in Masai Mara! We had the best guides during our stay with our family. Charles and Kip rocked it with seeing everything on our wish list and more!! We were fortunate enough to see a lion cub and more babies, lots of kills, and the most amazing of all was the 10,000+ crossing of the wildebeests and zebras on their way to the Serengeti! The staff was very accommodating to our needs and the room was wonderful. We saw a baby elephant grazing just across the river from our balcony. The outdoor shower was great during the day but a little bit intimidating in the evenings when we would hear sounds but couldn’t see what was outside. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and especially with our wonderful guides that made this trip so special in so many ways! An unforgettable experience for all!

What can I say about this luxury camp! Our host for 4 days was John, one of the most professionally service oriented and nicest man we have ever met at any safari camp. Elewana has some of the nicest camps in the Mara, no doubt. Service was impeccable! We wanted for nothing during our stay thanks to John. The food was outstanding! Such a much higher level than the average food at camps around the Mara. Our tent was clean, beautiful and remade to the tees every morning. Hot water was almost instant. I think they have water heaters under the decks of each tent. The tub was heavenly to soak in after a long day on safari. The outdoor shower was also very relaxing. Elewana camps are a step up in the price range of Mara camps but well worth the extra money. You get what you pay for. I would not hesitate to recommend Sand River Camp to anyone looking for impeccable taste. We loved our four day stay and can't wait to return some day. Thank you John, thank you Elewana!! The experience was superb throughout. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, nothing was too much trouble. We were looked after brilliantly and couldn’t fault a thing. The family room was fantastic and worked really well for our family of five. Watching the animals along the river after lunch was a real highlight. All of the staff were excellent. Nicolene was always on hand to check that everything was ok. Patrick our waiter was brilliant and chef Shabam’s cooking was great. John made sure we got back to our rooms safely every evening. Excellent game drives. We came to Sand River instead of one of the conservancies on the recommendation of our travel agent given it’s tucked away on the border and less busy. The advice couldn’t have been better. Alex our guide was superb and we saw all of the big 5 on the family’s first safari together. A fantastic experience - couldn’t recommend Elewana Sand River enough!

If you want to have a taste of what Safari used to be like but with luxurious accommodation and superb food, then this is the place to go. The whole camp is tented and set on the edge of the river where we enjoyed early morning breakfast and lunch whilst watching the wildlife on the other side. The food is truly superb and I believe would challenge a top notch hotel. The tent we had was super luxury. It was spacious with comfy seating, very comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. A huge tub to soak in and a wonderful outdoor shower overlooking the river and wildlife. Nicoline and the team couldn’t do enough for us. Patrick our waiter made sure we had everything we wanted and a drink was never out of our hands with Jeremiah looking after us. Thank you for making this trip so special. It would be lovely to visit again some day.

Nicolene and her team gave us 5* experience in the most stunning setting. We took the all inclusive game and meal package which meant we were catered for on an extremely high level in camp and on game drives. Within camp we were treated to several appearances from large groups of elephants, entertained by a large troop of baboons and were very close to the local lions. Thankfully the ascaris kept us all very safe between dusk and dawn. Our expert driver had over 20 years experience of guiding and intimate knowledge of the Masai Mara. He took us to places that were not well known and consequently we saw extremely rare sights: the first wilderbeast crossing from the Serengeti for example.The safari vehicles are purpose built Toyota Landcruisers which gave the ultimate comfort and viewing. They were equipped with a fully stocked fridge for us to enjoy throughout the day. They also enabled the driver to cross rivers and the most challenging terrain safely. We even towed out another vehicle which didn’t have the same capability as ours. The food was divine throughout and the chefs accommodated 1 vegetarian and 1 gluten & dairy free with equally exceptional quality dishes. Our waiter was always very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. And the safari breakfast was beautifully done and an experience we will always cherish not least because we were serenaded by 30 hippos! We were lucky enough to stay in tent 1 which was stunning to stay in. Our roll top, outdoor shower and four poster beds were all much appreciated. We were so close to the wildlife that one night we could hear elephants eating and breathing just beyond our tent!! . We can’t recommend Sand River highly enough. As our first experience, I feel we have been truly spoilt. Thank you Nicolene and the team for such a fabulous stay.
