Riad Sidi Omar

Given the high ratings and travellers choice award, it seems that this Riad has found a way to game TA's rating system. Unfortunate because this was our last few nights in Marrakech before returning home and it left a bit of a bad taste. We stayed only in Riads during our 2 week trip using TA's recommendations and they were all excellent including another Riad in Marrakech except for Sidi Omar. This Riad is very tired and in need of a lot of work. We had the family suite upstairs and the clay tiles on the bedroom and bathroom were lose. The plumbing didn't drain properly. Lighting and wifi were weak. You had to watch your head climbing the very narrow stairs to the second floor. As other reviewers have noted, there were communication issues with the pickup and drop-off. Immediately after arriving, we had planned on visiting the Ben Youseff Medersa. We asked for directions to get there, and they offered to take us. But instead of taking us directly there, a 15 minute walk turned into a 40 minute long circuitous affair with stops at special store where you can get real argan oil at "special" prices ie. the riad gets a referral fee. A common but distasteful practice in many parts of the world which we were well aware of. Whether it's a hostel, riad or luxury accommodations, most travellers rely on hotel proprietors and employees to get there bearings in a new city. These employees inevitably serve as ambassadors for their city and country. Sadly, when this trust is broken so quickly upon arrival, it inevitably sets the tone for the rest of the visit. We stayed in some spectacular Riads during our trip for about the same rate as Sidi Omar and met some incredible people. Don't let this place set the tone of your next visit to Marrakech. TA, YOUR TRAVELLERS CHOICE AWARDS HAVE BECOME MEANINGLESS!

Spent a night here after hiking in the Atlas Mountains. The host was super nice, the room was large, it was very quiet inside and breakfast was good. We struggled a bit to find the riad but eventually learnt to follow the white arrows (and there wasn’t a sign on the door originally which didn’t help).

4 days in Marrakesh Clean and Super kind and nice family owned liad. They are very helpful with thiyou may need😊

Had an amazing stay at Riad Sidi Omar! The atmosphere is so welcoming, and the traditional Moroccan decor adds a special charm. The owners were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the bustling souks and main attractions. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing experience in Marrakech!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Omar and his family . They went out of their way to accommodate all our needs. They breakfast was made fresh and was delightful way to start the day. I esp enjoyed the yogurt with rose water ! The rooms were wonderfully cool during the day and warm on cold nights. Very centrally located near main square, great restaurants and the souks. We felt like we were staying with family rather than at a hotel.

A very quiet Riad, a relaxing respite from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. The walk down Derb Snane is a little intimidating the first time you do it, but it’s quite quick and after you walk the route once you’ll not have a problem with it again as the path is clearly marked. This is a family home so don’t expect opulence but it was very clean and and perfectly lovely for what we were looking for. The heat and the AC worked (although we visited in the winter so we only needed the heat). We couldn’t get the wifi to work on all our devices but the data service in the riah worked well. Omar and his family are extremely friendly and accommodating. Breakfast every morning was lovely and served at whatever time we asked. They helped us get a taxi back to the airport and were familiar with the area to guide us a bit.
