The Old Lockup

Very unique guesthouse. We stayed here due to an interest in the buildings history and to support a local business. The host was very friendly and the freshly cooked breakfast made to order each morning was very nice. The rooms could do with a little refresh but for the price and location it suited our needs.

Fantastic Hotel, we stayed in the magistrates room for my Birthday and it'd definitely a 'wow this is nice' when you walk in. The attention to detail from the milk in the fridge to the chocolate on the pillow. Clean and comfortable. Bed perfect and a nice clean bathroom. Breakfast was spot on and it was great to see all the Police memorabilia. Also dog friendly (we took plenty of old sheets as we didn't want any wet paws anywhere!) The owner was a gentleman. It's right near everything, local pubs, restaurants and the town is very cute with nice people.

The Old Lockup is a real find! It’s quirky and full of character. We stayed in the Magistrates Room and found it really comfortable and cosy, everything you need is there, the en-suite shower room does the job, there’s even a hairdryer! Tim cooks a lovely fresh breakfast each morning and certainly knows how to be a good host. There is lots of walks and places to visit in the area and we will be going back for sure.

Quiet small Victorian hotel with unique set of rooms provides a charming experience. Rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order which is a nice touch alongside the friendly atmosphere. Wirksworth provides sufficient amenities and food outlets to enjoy locally.

What a lovely weekend we had at The Old Lockup - if you like quirkiness you will love this - very cosy and clean - everything you could wish for in a B&B all the safety aspects too - Breakfast was first class - nothing too much trouble and Tim the perfect host.

We had 2 great nights here. We chose it because of its unusual character. Tim gave us a warm welcome. We stayed in the Solicitors Room. Very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. All freshly cooked by Tim. Great location from which to explore the town and further afield. Well worth a visit.

We stayed for two nights in the Solicitor's Room at The Old Lockup and it was lovely. The house is old and full of character ( and police memorabilia!). The age of the property means it has odd steps up and down but there are handrails where needed, we're in our seventies and had no problems. Our room was big enough and equipped with everything we needed - particularly appreciated the fridge with fresh milk for our tea - and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast is cooked to order and offers a good choice. Tim is particularly good at cooking eggs to perfection, we enjoyed the bagels with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. A real treat. There is on street parking plus some space onsite. Wirksworth is a handsome little town and there are great walks from the B&B and a number of places for dinner nearby. Tim is the ideal host - there when needed, unobtrusive otherwise. We can definitely recommend The Old Lockup . .

I had to make some changes to the booking at the last minute and Tim was so accommodating. Communication was second to none, and I really appreciated it. We stayed in the Magistrate's room and loved it! Lots of little extra touches like water in the fridge, chocolates on the pillows. Breakfast was fabulous and Tim was such an easy going host. I'm not surprised this is popular, and long may the success continue.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Old Lockup during our recent holiday in England; it provides very comfortable accommodations and is a great base for exploring the Peak District. Wonderful breakfast, free parking, quirky decor, friendly and hospitable host - very pleasant experience. Thanks again, Tim :)
