Familienresort Buchau Maurach am Achensee

We have just returned from an amazing week at Kinderhotel Buchau. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. We stayed with our 7 year old and 15 month old boys. There were endless activities for us all in a safe and beautiful setting. It far exceeded our expectations. It felt like a real hidden gem - not overcrowded and the staff were absolutely lovely and took the time to get to know our children which made all the difference. I want to particularly thank the lovely Sylvia at reception who made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived, she is such a kind person and an absolute natural with children. Antonella who made our little one giggle at dinner times and helped us to keep him in his highchair (!) and Matja who served us most nights, was so patient and put up with us! There is so much to recommend- the food was delicious and there was a wide variety on offer for adults and children. Our room (an Achensee suite on floor 2 of the main block) was perfect - spacious, clean and well equipped. It overlooked the play area/zip wire and this meant we could watch our eldest play with his new friends from our balcony in the evenings with a lovely view of the lake and a glass of aperol in hand. There were little extras that made such a difference such as Miele washing machines and air dryers. Bikes including Thule trailers, ebikes and helmets for free hire. Free use of high quality prams, running buggies (with rain covers) and backpack carriers. Finally, we were there July 13-20 and the weather was perfect. High 20s some days but never too hot or too cool.

I went with my 3 adult children, their spouses and 5 grand children ages 2-8. for a week. They room types offered incredible sleeping options for every age group. Many activities for families - no one gets bored. The food and staff are spectacular. They have everything you need. There isn't a drug store close by that carries the kinds of things you need if you have a cold or allergies. Bring your own meds. Beds are firmer that what we are used to in the USA. Cheaper than a trip of this size to Disney and much more beautoful and personalized for children.

We booked a 10-day all inclusive package for our family consisting of two children (almost 1 & 5) and two adults. Accommodation: we slept in the so called “Familiennestl Seeblick II”; a suite with two double beds and a small balcony. Even though we were with four people, the room was spacious enough, even a baby cot fit inside. The amount and quality of the amenities were high: everything a baby needs was supplied (baby tub, wet wipe, butt cream, shampoo, kettle, changing mat) and for the adults they had shampoo & shower gel from a local brand which we afterwards purchased as souvenir and also for ourselves. The only minus point is soundproofing. First I thought we ended up unlucky and had an especially sporty elephant family above us which woke up at 5am to run up and down the room but soon I realized that it’s just how the building was built. If we’d ever return we’d choose a different room/suite/apartment. Food: what can I say? Above all expectations. Both quantity and quality-wise there’s nothing to complain. Wide selection of dishes, always something for (picky) children. For dinner parents can choose from an a la carte menu which we appreciated after having several buffet meals before (breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack). Drinks and food for babies as well as fruits were available throughout the entire day and even alcoholic beverages were included in the price. Activities: our 5-year-old enjoyed the kids club however our little one wasn’t used to being taken care of by strangers. Unfortunately babies don’t have a playroom only at the premises of the kids club which parents cannot enter. So if the weather is bad and your baby doesn’t want to let go of you, there’s not much to do. For older children (think of toddlers and up) there are many great options. An outdoor playground, a soft play, a climbing wall, table tennis, pool tables, go-kart, water slide, bare foot trail,… There are also organized family activities like the “Waldwichtel Tag” where you can slide down zip-lines and climb up a tree, pony riding, tractor riding, etc. In the close proximity of the hotel there’s a hiking (rather walking) trail called “Wuselweg” where children can collect stamps and then receive a mail to their home from the “Wusel”. (The letter has actually arrived!) Also nearby is a leisure center with a huge ship converted into a playground that’s accessible free of charge in off-season. You can also rent bikes for free (except for e-bikes, those cost) from the hotel or golf carts (also for a fee) and cycle/drive around the fantastic Achensee. Buggies and baby backpacks can be rented free of charge. Just above the hotel there are several waterfalls to hike up to. Personnel: I come from Hungary so for me it was especially surprising that seemingly most employees also came from Hungary. They all spoke excellent German and were very attentive, friendly and professional. Every single employee of this hotel knew how to approach guests in the best way p

Great stay in an amazing location. Lots of amenities and very friendly staff. This hotel is amazing for families and allows lots of fun for the kids and parents. Food is great and lots of choice. Too many things to do in the area so choose wisely:)

Wonderfull hotel! Beautifull rooms ), good food and many facilities. Just perfect! The kids love it as well. You don't have to think abouth anything. Everething is taking care off! The hotel is also situated in a beautifull area.

Perfect vacation for families with young kids - this was our second time in this hotel. Lots of indoor activities for the kids (6 and 7 yo) and very close to Rofan bahn - perfect for ski beginners and small kids. Staff was extremely nice and provided great service. Highly recommended
