Tomjachu Bush Retreat

We stayed in the pet friendly cottage - the area enclosed was spacious (our dogs could run around). The cottage had all the amenities we needed, and then some! A lot of trials for hikes/walks with stunning views. A beautiful, tranquil place, ideal for a breakaway.

We had the most incredible stay at Tomjachu Bush Retreat! From the moment we arrived, Ross and Sandy welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality—it truly made the entire experience unforgettable. We stayed in the Crooked Cottage, and what a gem it was! Being able to bring our two dogs along made it even more special. Waking up (and going to sleep!) with giraffes right at our fence—it’s something we’ll never forget. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the peacefulness of being surrounded by nature is something you just can’t put into words. Every detail was top-notch—from the friendly restaurant staff and the delicious food, to the beautifully maintained accommodation. Tomjachu isn’t just a retreat, it’s a slice of paradise. We’re already planning our next trip and can’t wait to return with friends to stay at the Valbonne Villa. Thank you Ross, Sandy, and the entire team for an unforgettable stay—see you soon!

We booked into Tomjachu this past weekend as we were running in the Kaapsehoop marathon. No where on their web site or in the reservation correspondence did they set out their check in times. We left Centurion at 14:h30 and wanted to collect our race numbers at the Mbombela stadium at 18:30. We were an hour out and I called to announce our arrival. The lady at reception advised us that check in closed at 18:00 and she was doing us a favor to stay there till 19:00. I explained we wanted to pick up our numbers and this would make us later than 19:00. She advised in that case we would not be able to access the property. This resulted in us having to drive past the stadium, check in and then return to the stadium adding an hour to our 4 hour trip. It is beyond comprehension that in this day and age they are so inflexible in check in time in particular that the JHB trip takes 4 hours so if you do not leave JHB before 14:00 don’t chose this as your holiday retreat. Very disappointed customer

We had such high expectations. I must say, on a positive note, the location of this place is spectacular, and the tree is beautiful. Our room was adequate even though we had two singles beds pushed together with the uncomfortable join. The staff were dreadful. It was as if we had taken advantage of a price reduction and should be punished for it! We popped out for dinner one night (didnt trust the cooking of Tomjachu after being served raw pork sausages for breakfast) and returned to a darkened locked up main homestead! You have to ask for anything and everything. Towels are old and small. If you wait outside the kitchen at breakfast no-one offers coffee. I truly do not understand how any seasoned traveller will come away from this overated place happy.

My husband and I stayed in the Rock House……wow, what a view! We loved every minute of our stay. The staff were attentive and the food was excellent. Staying here was the highlight of our holiday in South Africa. ❤️❤️❤️

The reason for this trip was to unwind and recharge whatever needed to be recharged, and I was not sure what to expect, and when I arrived all my expectations were met and surpassed, I felt that stress wash away by the bucket load. The place is magic, and nothing beats the bush radio and bush TV, and even got my 4X4 fix. LOL. As for accommodation, wow, just right, neat, clean and tidy, thank you. As for the hosts and staff members alike, they are awesome, and were very attentive in ensuring that you were always in good spirits, thank you. What can I say other then, I'LL BE BACK
