Grand Hotel Soleil d'Or

It was the second time we stayed at one of the chalets of Soleil D’Or . We chose it because of its wonderful location and our last year’s positive experience. The chalet itself is really nice and very welcoming for families and groups of friends. It has all the features of a five star chalet but it’s lacking some details that would make it perfect (for example, why put fake candles in all the chalet of none of them have batteries ?!🤷‍♀️ Or not put soap in the bathrooms ‘because there is shower gel anyway’ ) I am sad to say that, compared to last year, the services were worst. It felt like a general sense of confusion, poor communication and lack of professionalism. When we booked the chalet, no one informed us that one of the bathrooms in the vila was completely non functional and under renovation. They offered to finish renovation while we were there … which we obviously refused . Also, there was much confusion about the breakfast in the vila and we were told to cook our own eggs so that they don’t get cold by the time room service will bring them to the chalet. The hotel shuttle cannot be booked in advance and it took some time until someone properly explained to us how it works , which was finally ok. The only faultless services were the ones offered by the hotel SPA , which we enjoyed every day during our stay.

The hotel room and grounds are very nice and spacious. We liked the spa and the jacuzzi was hotter than many in other Alpine resorts. The rooms were very clean. The concierge service was not at all worthy of a 5 star hotel. I’ve skied France before and we were in Paris a week before we stayed here. The service was exceptionally underwhelming. The employees were just young and inexperienced with luxury travel. We stayed the first week of January so maybe their “a team” was taking time off. -The staff in the lobby barely stopped their conversations with one another to greet us “bonjour” when we walked in. -I asked for assistance in getting to the lift. The girl at the desk literally rolled her eyes and told me it was a 5 minute walk. I stay at resorts in the Alps every year. Every other place I go they help with a map and directions. - My husband asked for water 3 times at breakfast before getting a glass -The ski room lock never seemed to work and open up (small I know but after lugging your skis around you don’t want to have to walk around the entire building on ice to get someone to open the door for you) -We were at a Michelin dinner and asked our waiter to call the complementary vehicle to pick us up at 10:30 PM. The hotel told him it ended at 10 PM despite telling us twice it ended at 11. The hotel the restaurant was in ended up driving us home. We will stay there next time…

An incredible stay in a beautiful location. The hotel is absolutely charming, well located for the town of Megeve and with a flexible on-demand shuttle service to the main ski lifts. Our room (a King Deluxe) was lovely and the breakfast restaurant and roof top bar first class Alpine hospitality. Whilst all these are wonderful, I don't usually write reviews, but my wife had a ski accident on this trip and I have never experienced staff that do so much to go above and beyond in helping guests. The support and service provided turned what could have been an awful memory into a trip we will savour for a long time. Thank you to all the Grand Hotel team with a big call out to Fabien.

The hotel is in a nice location in the city, most of the staff are friendly, but I don't think they met my expectations for a 5 star. They seemed unwilling to adapt in order to provide a good service, even after complaints were made. There was no luggage service. Dinner took a long time to be served. The shower pressure was low and it was very difficult to get to the right temperature, which would change constantly by itself. I felt bedbugs when I was trying to sleep.

It was our first stay in this hotel after we tried several other 5 star hotels in Megeve, and the Grand Hotel Soleil d'Or beats them all by far. We had booked the family suite which is a real apartment, beautifully decorated with balconies all around. The staff has been amazing during the the week, they made us feel at home and part of the family. The hotel is gorgeous with the renowned Chocolaterie on the 1st floor. Kudos to the whole staff and particularly Kylian at the bar, Thibault at the reception, Chantal at the Chocolaterie and of course Therese who masterfully manages the whole operation with full attention to details and a constant smile. There is no doubt that we will be back with our 3 kids. Thanks again for having made our stay in Megeve memorable.

What a gem and such a nice breath of fresh air mostly due to the wonderful people who work there. Beautiful boutique hotel well managed with the aim to please their customers at heart. There is a wonderful team of people from the front desk, concierge, kitchen, waiters, cleaners, drivers, Spa beauticians, all so very helpful and always smiling and eager to help in any situation. We have been treated like royalty from day 1 until the very last day. Thank you for suggesting and booking us in the most exquisite restaurants, to take us and pick us up to and from the slopes, to be so pleasant at breakfast with a lovely team to welcome us every morning. I also love the personal touch and the small presents left in the room almost every day from homemade succulent chocolates to scented ceramic and other hotel freebies. There is always water available in our room or ski room. The Spa is a little sanctuary and the ladies working there have magical hands. Everyone is so professional with a positive energy and attitude. It is pleasing to see and to be on the receiving end. Thank you all!
