Great Southern Hotel Melbourne recensioner

Great location, only 2-minute's walk from Southern Cross station. The room is more spacious than shown in the photos on the hotel's website.

Room was clean staff very helpful and close to everything Melbourne has just short walk to most place around the city.

The location is great, easy to walk to train station hotel is old but still warm

Just nice at this price. The floor a bit noisy when stepped on. Other things are nice. Parking is perfect

This time they give me a room with window and ventilation. That was the great difference. And they do have big beds. By night I heard the tram. But it was a good stay with great location.

The biggest issue was the amount of bugs and insects that also reside in the rooms. They are not just limited to the bathroom but can be found everywhere. The place needs fumigating. Check in was done via a machine so its hard to comment on customer service

Good location next to station would recommend if you’re staying just to sleep there. Only provided soap. No slippers, no laundry bag, no sewing kit. So be prepared when you go there

This is the place to book if you want to save money on the weekdays (because it’s cheap) Downsides that our home had no air conditioner just Fan / Heating mode. Also no room service and you need to ask for new towels and shampoo etc. But to be honest I can live with it if it’s the cost of getting a place in the center for cheap.

Great place and location and accessible to transport

Near train station.. Good locality.. Overall a decent stay... Bang for your bucks

The hotel is clean and very convenient and accessible to the train station, 711 and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Superficially good but has a few issues on greater scrutiny. Room size for the standard double's is fine as is the bed size and comfort level.as well as the bathroom. The main problem lies with interor design which features inverted wall sections. The bathroom has a bathtub in it is a short, fixed shower head. There is not much space between the glass partition and the inverted wall, making it difficult to properly immerse oneself in the water stream. Easier to use the bath tub but no plug was provided (was able to obtain one from reception however). Other issue was the centrally controlled ventilation, for which there is wall mounted control, but unable to vary temperature. Also it simply switches itself off after 10 minutes or so. If this is a cost reduction measure it is a bit stingy. Two other complaints- no room service of any kind for the four day stay. No idea why. Stayed in literally hundreds of hotels of varying standards over past two and half years and never experienced that. Had to dispose of rubbish myself. Also, noise from footsteps from overlying rooms quite audible. Overall, for the $100 AUD tariff these days, still OK but if you want to shower it helps if you're a contortionist, and wildlife might be attracted to the room due lack of servicing !

Local is great, within walking distance to free tram stations & most of the tourism spots in the City. Hotel lift is extremely slow and always incur long waiting time. Room sound proof is also very bad as we can always hear of noises fm outside and loud feet stomping sound from upper floor.

Great Southern Hotel is diagonally opposite to the Southern Cross station, where the Skybus to and ftom airport, picks and send travellers to city. Tour groups' pickup point. It has a restaurant attached to the hotel. Room is really basic and not serviced, but clean to start with.
