I wanted to love my stay, but two things stood out in my 3-night trip. First, while the hotel has amazing spa facilities, I spent about 2 hours trying to enjoy it while two loud, sometimes screaming children made it impossible to relax. After about 20-30 minutes, I let the staff know that there were children yelling (making it near impossible to enjoy) and the staff immediately came with me and spoke to each family. But the kids continued at probably 80% volume for at least another hour. There were spa employees present the entire time who could have spoken to the parents and/or asked the kids to leave after failing to lower their volume, but they didn’t. Second, as a Hilton Diamond member, I was excited to get an upgraded room — even though they are “space-available” I was paying close attention and saw that the room level just one up from my room was available to book. When I checked in, I was told there were no upgrades as available as the hotel was “full.” When I showed the manager that the room was showing up as available on the website she said that the website was wrong and that she’d take the room off the website, as it wasn’t available. Of course, I checked a few more times during my stay and that room remained on the website, available to book. This either means that the: (1) the hotel is not honoring upgrades from Hilton Diamond status or (2) the hotel has rooms for sales on its website that aren’t actually available to book. Neither are a good look for the hotel. It became a joke among me and my friend that the hotel was “full” as it seemed pretty empty to us. I also asked if I could pay for an upgrade and I was quoted 500 Euro/night, which seemed excessive as the room was selling for about 1,200 Euro/night. There were some things I enjoyed about the hotel including: - very friendly hotel staff - modern room and amenities - the spa facilities (when loud children were not present) - delicious buffet breakfast The hotel also relied on the “we’re full” messaging in trying to deny me a requested late checkout, also a benefit of Hilton Diamond status. While I was able to get checkout extended by just an hour, it was only after making it clear it was very important to me, particularly in light of them not upgrading me despite the online availability of another room. I’m now staying at Villa d’Este and it’s like night and day. Knowing what I know now, I would probably skip Grand Hotel Victoria and stay at Villa d’Este the entire time.
