The Amsterdam Boutique Stays by Viadora

The hotel gives a wonderful first impression with its ultra-modern grey and white lobby, but doesn't live up to it. During our stay, there were apparently problems with water in the building which necessitated the water being turned off for parts of two days. We noticed no problems except low water pressure in the shower, but after the water was worked on, we had the same low water pressure and almost no water at one sink faucet. The coffee machine in our room didn't work. Though we asked for it to be fixed or replaced, it wasn't. In addition, there was no decaf coffee, either in the room, the lobby, or at the breakfast buffet. We were woken every morning to the noise of chairs scraping on the roof deck in preparation for breakfast. The breakfast, which we tried once, was terrible. We were delighted that there were a washing machine and dryer for public use, but the dryer didn't work. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Thank you Diego and Monserrat for your suggestions and willingness to try to fix the problems we encountered.

I had been torn about choosing to stay here as versus the JW Marriot in Polanco. Frankly, the number of reviews I read and people I consulted to make my decision is a little embarrassing. I’m sooo glad we chose to stay here! The neighborhood is tree-lined and charming and felt super safe; the rooms were well appointed and incredibly clean; and the service, especially by Montserrat and Alfonso, was outstanding. Add to that the charming roof top with the light, delicious breakfast and it’s hard to ask for more. The Amsterdam felt like an oasis at the end of happy, busy, long days. Plus, their gym was well equipped and there are lots of good places to eat nearby. Special shout out to the Orquideas cafe next door that had an abundance of moist and delicious gluten-free and sugar-free treats.
