Count Kalnoky's Transylvanian Guesthouse

We spent a few days in Miklósvár, and honestly, it felt so good to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The atmosphere of the guesthouses immediately won me over – rustic, authentic, yet comfortable. Not luxury, but that’s exactly the charm. There’s something genuine and peaceful about it, which is rare these days. Our room’s style and furnishings were beautiful, and thanks to the thick walls, it stayed pleasantly cool inside – perfect for the August heat. The surroundings are stunning: hills, forests, birdsong. They offer a variety of programs; we joined a horse-drawn carriage picnic, which turned out to be surprisingly fun, and the landscape along the way was simply breathtaking. One evening, we even went bear watching. Baking chimney cake was a true communal experience, full of laughter. The hosts were very kind and helpful without being intrusive – present just as much as needed. We also visited the nearby Kálnoky Castle, a lovely, atmospheric place where it felt great to get a glimpse of its history. The food was fantastic – simple, flavorful, home-style dishes. The house wine deserves special mention: delicious, full of character, and a perfect match with dinner. All in all, we had a wonderful time, and we’ll definitely return.
