We were a party of 4 people staying in 3 rooms for 5 nights. Good points: Location Very comfortable beds Breakfast Good value given the breakfast Friendly, helpful staff Not so sure: Large reserve on credit card on check in, cancelled on check out Presidential Room not worth it, poor design and decor Lighting in rooms too dim Cool bathrooms Church bells overnight Explanation For the most part, I really liked the Roosevelt Hotel.  However, there were some things that could be better.  The bottom line is though, that I would stay there again if I were ever in Middelburg. It is located in a brilliant position.  It's just 150m from the main market square. Middelburg is a really lovely place to visit.  We didn't find parking to be a problem - we could drop off our cases easily enough and then drive to the recommended secure car park.  The walk back only took 7-8 minutes.  The car park cost around €11-12 a day. The beds are very comfortable (although we always bring our own pillows) and the Dutch breakfast is really good. A couple of days before we arrived, the Hotel contacted us to ask us if we minded having a free upgrade from our Grand Deluxe Room 2 to the Presidential Suite for two of our five nights.  As a party we had booked rooms 1,2 & 3 because these are the only rooms on the ground floor (no stairs).  One of our party was over 90 years old.  They said they needed Room 2 for another resident who wanted to stay on and was disabled.  For that reason, we agreed to the upgrade. The Presidential Suite is large with a ceiling that is at least 8m high.  The bathroom is on a mezzanine above the bed although, thankfully, the toilet is at room level.  We found going up and down the stairs to the bathroom a bit of a pain.  The room decor was not to our taste either - perhaps New York loft style from 20 years ago?  The lighting was too dim as well.   When we moved back to the Grand Deluxe Room, we much preferred it.  The bathroom was on the same level and there was still plenty of space.  However, the lighting was, again, too dim.  The bathroom was spacious and well ventilated which meant that you dry quickly after a shower/bath.  That said, this meant it felt a little cool when showering and drying.  We got a little noise coming from through the ceiling from the room above. Rooms 1 and 3 are standard comfort rooms and felt a little cramped - especially room 1 which has a daft layout. All of us occasionally heard the nearby church bells ringing at all hours of the night. On check in, they put a €3,000 reserve on my credit card for the 3 rooms.  I wasn't happy about this - it seemed excessive.  It put quite a dent in my credit limit.  I suppose it worked out at €200 per room per night and for one night at that rate I wouldn't have objected.  At the end of our stay, they cancelled the reserve without any problem.

Rooms were nice and clean. Food was good and bar staff were friendly however, we were woken up several nights at 2:30 and asked to move rooms when working night shifts on a tight sleep schedule with no apologies from staff and several promises that it “would not happen again” broken .

A great hotel to enter: lovely atmosphere in an historic building next to the abbey and "de Lange Jan". Quality of the room: great! Clean, good amenities (Nespresso machine, TV with Chromecast, safe, plenty of towels and bathrobes (including slippers!) They are a few things to know, to better make your choice. 1) being a historic building, it's far from sound proofed. Alarm clocks in adjacent rooms can be heard, people upstairs or in the corridor walking around are very audible and the sounds of the terrace in the courtyard carry into your room until closing time of the bar. 2) the sauna and jaccuzi are inside a screened part of the courtyard. The pictures do it justice, but privacy is limited. 3) breakfast is served at the table in timeslots that you have to decide the day before. It consists of a selection made by the host. You can add yoghurt with or without granola (no choices with regards to types), and you can have a boiled or scrambled egg. The selection might not give you enough variety for your preference.

Wonderful! Lovely room, delicious breakfast, great service, we love it! The beds are comfortable, the huge tub is fun. Great location, easy walk to wherever you need to be. We have stayed before and came back because we loved it.

We stayed at The Roosevelt for 2 nights during our trip to the southwest of the Netherlands. We arrived by train and it was a short walk (with luggage) to the hotel. We were a bit early so they stored our luggage, but also made the room available the moment it was ready. We stayed in Room 26 on the second story (third floor). There is no elevator and it is a spiral staircase. The room was large with a king size bed, a fridge and a coffee maker. There are windows on two sides and the one to the north had a good view. Breakfast was beyond excellent and included breads, meats, jams, eggs, coffee, juice, etc. Not once were we able to finish everything they laid out for us. The breakfast alone was worth staying here.

We had a wonderful stay in the Roosevelt hotel. Excellent room with a beautiful view over the old center of Middelburg. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. And without knowing, we booked during the N8VDN8 event, which was a really nice surprise.

This was our second visit to the Roosevelt Hotel. A charming spot in historic Middelburg. The hotel is as unique as the city and located next to the church in the center of town. Each room has it’s own personality with extremely comfortable beds and luxurious linens. A surprise and highlight is the breakfast served in the front room of the hotel with live orchids lining the walls. Freshly made pastries, meats, cheeses and fruit are served on a tea tray with little pots of jams. Eggs perfectly cooked to oder alongside freshly squeezed orange juice. The owners are warm and welcoming as is all the staff. We just checked out this morning and are already planning our return.

We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Our room was different from any we've ever experienced (a good thing). The hotel is beautifully situated, and even has a sweet sauna and jacuzzi package that came with fresh orange slices and water. Breakfasts are ample, and staff is friendly and helpful. We would easily stay here again!
