Aux Ducs de Sienne

A bit difficult to review this place as we stayed on a Sunday night when the restaurant was closed ( despite the website stating it was open) and we appeared to be the only guests. However the room was superb.Beautifully decorated and lacking nothing in facilities. Breakfast was adequate but felt a little pared back which is understandable if indeed we were the only guests. Reception wasn't even open in the morning and check out was handled by the breakfast lady. All slightly underwhelming but I am sure I would have got a far better appreciation if I hadn't stayed on a Sunday.

They are only two things away from perfection: They are missing a wine bar (a must in wine country) and they should keep at least one of their restaurants open every night rather than closing them both on Sundays and Mondays. And if I’m being picky maybe lower the prices on local wines which they sell at reasonable prices in their boutique at reception but charge triple for in their restaurants and by the pool. In their defense I’m seeing this fleecing around the world. Just a shame since at least local wines in wine country used to be reasonable. Now for the positive, the rooms are spacious and comfortable with all the modern amenities. Nespresso machine available upon request. Or just call reception for free Cappucino delivery in the morning. The reception is welcoming and accessible. The bistro restaurant with terrace over the pool and vineyards has a nice Italian French flare and serves excellent pasta by the pool or on the terrace. The gaspacho and faux filet are equally good. It doubles as a breakfast buffet in the morning which is also well stocked with good scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. They could cook the bacon a little more. The croissants and chocolatines are fresh and plentiful with a lovely selection of local jams. Maybe the fruit salad could have something other than melons. The yogurt and cereal selection is excellent as is the cakes and other local breads. And the juices are freshly squeezed. They should come check on guests at the pool so we don’t have to come up to the restaurant everytime we want something. And we wanted everything because it was a perfect oasis after visiting St-Emilion and local vineyards. We had lunch at the restaurant, lunch by the pool, dinner at their upscale gastronomical restaurant and cappuccinos via room service. The only thing we didn’t do, since they were closed two nights, was have dinner at the bistro terrace casual restaurant. All the food was excellent, especially the magret de canard and foie gras. The pork belly and lobster was also an interesting combination. The fondant de pistache dessert was to die for. The service and billing were excellent. The reception/concierge booked us at two nice casual spots in town when their restaurants were closed and also booked us a great tour of the Chateau Saint-George Vineyard within walking distance. We reserved e-bikes at 45€ per day pp but had to cancel due to inclement weather. We are looking forward to returning and biking to other vineyards and villages. Oh yeah they also had two complimentary fast or slow chargers for EVs that worked swimmingly.

A very "light" 4 star hotel... Maybe 3 would nail it... - No reception occupied after 2000 - no lift - the gym is a joke... - the website says breakfast as of 0700 but the staff told us, sorry, we open at 0730... - empty minibar All in all not worth the money!

The good points: beautiful setting and buildings. Stylish and very clean, comfortable bedroom with top quality bedding. Less good: the dinner - the food was fine, and surroundings pleasant, but the service was too slow. Two and a half hours for a 3-course meal is excessive. And the glass of red wine was simply horrid, with a bitter aftertaste. So we decided against dinner in the hotel the second night. Breakfast costing €25 pp was buffet style and good/average quality. However neither coffee machine was functioning- (one of these simply needed water), but the only young woman on duty this Saturday didn’t get round to sorting this out so we had a very expensive breakfast without coffee. We felt service was lackluster in this expensive hotel. Parking is in a free public car park behind the hotel, and our room was in the annex of the hotel above the restaurant, so nice and quiet. But we were left to carry our cases up the stairs to our room with no lift. Compared to previous hotels we’ve stayed in on this trip, we felt Aux Ducs de Sienne does not give value for the cost.

Aside from spending one night in this beautiful hotel, we are writing this review to commend one staff member in particular who could not have been more helpful to us during a stressful time we had in attempting to charge our electric car rental. Felitia, on reception the day we arrived, showed us where the car park public charging point was. While she, like us was not familiar with how to charge an e car, she was available and interested in trying to help us. She made phone calls on our behalf, checked online, consulted with other staff members, then accompanied us to the station to attempt the process again. It was only with her help that we were successful with what we were trying to achieve. This was after she had given us a room upgrade as the hotel was quiet that night, recommended restaurants and showed us to our room. She is a lovely person with a lovely way about her. Thank you Felitia. While our stay was very short, the other staff members we encountered were also very pleasant and helpful. We had a nice lunch the day we arrived and very nice buffet breakfast the next morning. The hotel decor is beautiful, the pool very pleasant and the stay very comfortable.

What a fantastic find! The hotel is beautiful with many little details that make it really special. The staff went out of their way to help make our stay special - I cannot recommend this place enough! It was really great and we'd happily go back
