This hotel is close to the Train Station in Morpeth and central for so much else. We (we being me and my 12 year old daughter) booked very late and didn't arrive until gone 9.00 pm, in desperate need of some tlc on a night when the temperatures were sub zero. The warm greeting we received immediately made us pleased to have booked here. Because it was so last minute, there was a bit of juggling to get us a room that best suited our needs. They did. Our room (12) was very basically decorated and furnished. But it was exactly what we asked if it was possible to get.I suspect the room is getting ready for a refurb and that's why it had no pictures or wee extra touches. We didn't need the wee touches. We were happy with big immaculately clean room, bed each, heating on, powerful shower and tea and coffee facilities in the room. I was really happy to be able to get a warming rum in the cosy bar as a nightcap. Took it to the room, but under different circumstances would have been happy to sit in there of an evening. We slept well. Breakfast was good. The service was welcoming and I genuinely felt they were willing to (and did) go that extra mile to make sure we had everything we wanted. Had to hang around a lot the next day whilst making new arrangements to return home to Scotland. Again we were made to feel welcome as their guests. I went a wee wander into town. I don't know the area at all. Can I recommend that just round the corner is a Tourist Information centre that also has a HUGE gift shop with over 80 outlets selling local arts and crafts. Beautiful place, was so impressed. Back in the hotel I finally had the opportunity to appreciate what a beautiful building with stunning original features the Waterford Lodge is. It does seem to be suffering a bit from. COVID hangover in terms of some work in progress... ....I can only speak from our personal experience which was a positive one, especially the friendly, professional and canny staff.
