Windermere Estate

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation, food and service were all exemplary. Some of views were just spectacular! What made the trip particularly special were the guided cycle ride and hike through a nearby tea plantation to the top of a ridge- our guide Anji through Kestral Adventures was exceptional.

Really beautiful setting. Despite the mist and rain when I visited it really is a lovely place. The rooms are scattered throughout the grounds and are quiet and clean and spacious. With nice balconies. No air con or ceiling fans, although when I visited it wasn’t too hot so was fine. Please don’t eat here. The set meal was not good at all. It wasn’t revolting, but was tasteless. Vegetable soup lacked any salt or other discernible flavour. Duck dish greasy and the aubergine dish was OK but not tasty. Veg stew was basically the soup unblended. And it was not cheap. The second day I bought food while I was out and ate on the balcony. A much better idea!!! The staff could not have been more helpful of friendly. I’d definitely recommend staying here, but eat elsewhere!

The Windermere estate is very comfortable, lovely room with balcony overlooking the valley. Afternoon tea was well worth going to and the chef went to a lot of trouble to provide a lovely experience. The on site naturalist was excellent, leading a walk through the cardamom plantation in the afternoon and a bird watching walk early morning.

We loved the relaxing atmosphere of the property, set in a very well kept garden. The welcoming and the staff politeness made us feel well looked after, especially in the afternoon when coffee and cakes prepared on the spot were served in the gazebo. The following afternoon guided walk through the cardamom plantation was really worth while. The room was spacious and had it's own character, just like you see in photos. No television but very good wi-fi connection, there is a fix menu for the meal with plenty of choice, it was delicious! We wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the swimming pool and the bird watching.

This is a beautifully maintained heritage property in the middle of cardomom plantations, There were no A/Cs, but we didn’t mind despite the fact that we were visiting on one of the hottest days of the year. The staff was polite and super friendly. We also got a chance to meet the owner Mr. Simon and had a delightful conversation. The food was delicious, prepared using fresh local ingredients. The place had a vibe and you can feel the calmness and serenity when you are there. The plantation walk in the evening was lovely and not to be missed. If you are looking for a place where you can be with the nature, this is it.

Stayed 2 nights in the garden room, lovely room but not much view and for the price would have expected a fridge especially as you have to bring your own alcohol. They will keep your drinks in their fridge and no problem bringing to you but for convenience would have preferred in room. The area is beautiful and the hotel offers guided walks around the cardomon plantation. The pool was lovely but limited chairs/ beds around pool which could be a little uncomfortable. Afternoon tea was served and some pop up events such as tea tastings. Maybe a notice board with timings of these would help instead of guests having to ask. Food was a set menu reasonable cost and mostly enjoyable but the pork dish we had was too fatty. The breakfast served outside was delightful with the peacefulness of the area. Overall great hotel in munnar.
