Nomads Magnetic Island

I had booked weeks ahead of time, when I arrived in the afternoon, I was told I needed a passport to check in, my driver's licence wasn't good enough, I am an Australian citizen . I asked the manager to show me where it stated anywhere on their site that a passport was needed, well he couldn't. So then I had to try and find somewhere else 4pm in the afternoon. I will not be letting this slide either.

This place has a great potential but it’s terribly kept. Loud music all of the time in the common area (REALLY LOUD). I had to work and I couldn’t find a quiet spot in the whole hostel where I could work from. The Wi-Fi is terrible and in the room it’s even worse (and there’s no signal so I couldn’t even use data). The place is dirty. Staff at the reception is sweet and nice but you can really tell that there is no one who is really taking care of the business with care. The main purpose is to sell alcohol at nights to young backpackers to make profit and they don’t really care about other types of travellers. In the dorm it was freezing and I had no blanket, just a sheet. In addition two guys started fighting because they were probably drunk. The hostel is far away from literally everything. There’s no supermarket nearby (you have to walk 40mins) and the bus runs just a few times a day. Perks: it’s on a very nice beach, the huts are literally by the sea and the swimming pool is very nice too. Laundry service is easy to use (with card) and soap is included. Overall I didn’t like it and would never recommend it to a friend. Maybe I’m not their target.

Great atmosphere at this beachfront hostel. Food is great and drinks are reasonable. Party atmosphere at night with games to get the crowd going. DJ has the place bouncing during and after the games. Easy and cheap bus access to ferry and local beauty spots. Car hire available from reception if you want to drive yourself around this island.

This hostel is beautiful with great bungalow dorms and amazing views. All the staff is really nice and helpful! Lily at reception helped us book a 3 Night Magnetic Island Escape Package, which made everything really easy. And Dave kept on it at the bar, helping us have a great getaway to Magnetic Island. Would definitely recommend to any travelers!!

The only good thing about this hostel is the views. Unfortunately, everything else is a nightmare: filthy, outdated bathrooms, poorly maintained bunk beds, and rooms teeming with insects and cobwebs. Hygiene is clearly not a priority. To top it off, they falsely advertised happy hour, then changed the time after payment—a clear scam tactic. This place was an awful experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere.

My son, Nick who is a VM at Boatys Airlie Beach booked us to stay at Nomads hostel for a couple of nights, my daughter and I stayed in a lovely place right on the seafront, it was comfortable and had a fridge, and 2 towels with complimentary soap, the toilets and showers were just down from where we were sleeping, it had breakfast at the island bar just a short 2-minute walk from there 8 am til 10.30 am and then lunch from 12 pm till 8 pm, we were made to feel welcome and to stay on such a beautiful Island as well made my stay perfect, highly recommend staying at Nomads hostel.
