Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room - it was spacious, with a very comfy bed, really good heating and plenty of tea and coffee on offer. The bathroom was good quality with a lovely bath. We also really enjoyed the continental breakfast on offer, which was very much a help yourself model but with plenty of options available. The location is fantastic for walking around Newbury.

The manager in here is disgraceful, he would not stop harassing me and my friends, and was telling us that the pub shuts at 10 even though it was 12. Overall the way we were treated today was indescribably poor, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Good location near railway station and nicely renovated, clean room. Staff were friendly and accommodating and meal menu looked appetizing. Breakfast was self service continental but was there was plenty of choice. Agree that there is some noise from the pub but they have a happy crowd of regulars and good to see the support from locals. Had a two night stay and can recommend.

Great bed. Room was comfortable and quiet with street view. Good lighting and handy outlets for charging. Ample parking but it took us a while to find the lot. Dinner in the bar was quite good. I had my first Sunday roast! Continental breakfast had ample choices. The staff was very nice. There was a little problem with the billing but they sorted it out. Overall, a good experience. I would recommend.

We were going Racing at Newbury on the Saturday so stayed at the Dolphin on the Friday night. I came down by train which was very convenient as it is within about 400m from the station. Another deciding factor was free parking (my partner drove down later). Although I had been to Newbury racecourse previously this was the first time I'd been to Newbury Town which I found charming, on the Kennet and Avon canal. The main shopping street was a very short walk away with a good selection of shops, bars. The exterior of the Dolphin belied its size as there were bar areas, a large interior dining area and external large garden with all having lovely decor yet still retaining a relaxing ambience. Our room was large with an extremely comfortable bed, clean tiled bathroom with bath and shower. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. A really lovely hotel-pub and would most definitely stay again.

This hotel is basically a pub with 4 or 5 rooms above that they rent out – very cool! The room was very cute, clean and had everything we needed. The staff we encountered were very cheery and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was self-serve and while not hot, had a good assortment of food choices/items. Bed was comfortable and as it was mid-week, the pub wasn’t open late, so we had a great sleep that night! Highly recommended!

We stayed here on our way to the Cotswolds. I had been told on the phone that there was an electric car charging point in the car park which was a big deciding factor to stay. The room was hot, but the main problem was that it was over the bar and there was a singer, with the audience joining in, and it was incredibly noisy. We really needed and wanted an early night but had to sit and wait (with the TV on really loud to drown out the noise) until midnight to go to sleep. If you book a room to sleep in, I think you should be told in advance that it is over a noisy pub. The breakfast was very basic. We wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed at the Dolphin when we visited Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey)! It was a short cab ride from the hotel and easy to arrange a cab from them. The hotel is a pub downstairs with a courtyard garden out back. We had planned to eat dinner there but they were closed for food, but Newbury has a lot of options and an easy walk to downtown. Breakfast was good. We loved the herbal soap and shampoos. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our one night at the dolphin!

Love popping into The Dolphin when visiting Newbury and will stay overnight at some time. The rooms look great as does the menu. Comfortable bar and choice of ales. Good atmosphere and service and a nice garden with huts, plus a carpark onsite.
