Despite having given information via the email booking process of our ages ( married over 54 years) and disposition some 8 weeks prior to our 2 night stay we were allocated room 20 , up in the " gods " via 5 sets of stairs on the 2nd floor. No lifts . The room itself had head beware sloping eaves ceilings at the bedside and in the wardrobe and bathroom . An old stained carpet didn't inspire confidence . There was no dressing table , only a table with the usual tea and coffee facilities . The TV was one of the oldest flat screens I've ever come across and wouldn't respond to any input whatsoever , even with new remote batteries ! The view from our window , obscured by blinds , was of rooves and guttering with a glimpse of sky . The bedside cabinets had huge gaps in the drawer bases and , bearing in mind we're in December the room heating was uncontrollable with the bed duvet in a plastic bag in the tiny wardrobe ! We were cold . Then on our 1st night we went down to dinner . Pre dinner bar drinks were unpriced and dispensed without signature or room no ! My main course chosen was " Yorkshire slow cooked pork belly " with trimmings . The trimmings were as expected but the meat , and I use the word reservably , was atrocious - warm , wet papier mache was brought to mind . My wife's turkey seemed to have been similarly prepared but was edible . Sous vide cookery is all very well if done correctly - my pork showed what happens when they get it wrong . We ate elsewhere on the second day . On the positive side :- The building is attractive and the location is excellent . The breakfast choice is great as is its quality . Christmas decorations were pleasant although nothing in the room . That's about it really , a complaint about the dinner , not apparently passed on to management as expected , resulted in a £20 reduction , dinner is £45pp !! I doubt we'll trouble them again .
