The Briers

Superb warm welcome from Darren. So friendly and couldn't do enough to help. We were arriving late and leaving early. Darren made sure an excellent self service breakfast was available so we could eat well before the usual breakfast time. It was our first time in Northern Ireland and we can't wait to go back. Such friendly people. Look forward to staying at the Briers again in the future.

We stayed with 2 other couples in the 3 bed cottage and it was superb. Great location, comfy beds and good living/dining space. We ordered pizza in to make use of the hot tub and had a brill time. Def recommend it and the host was lovely. There is so much to do in Newcastle wish we could have stayed longer

Finally got round to writing my review of this truly special place. After touring round Ireland for 10 days we were looking for somewhere to just chill and boy did we find it here. Everything about this place Darren has got right , to being able to have breakfast whatever time of day suited you , to just sitting in the beautiful gardens or having a drink in the lovely lounge and not forgetting the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Darren you and your staff have got everything right , cant wait to come back next year, after seeing all your plans for the future of the place. There's not much more I can add other than if you are in this area this really is the place to stay for some R@R. Thanking you all Mick and Jane Barton . Ps I bought a boiled egg maker

First the positives, absolutely beautiful room, no expense has been spared on the furniture and the fixtures and fittings, everything was top notch, couldn't fault any of the furnishings. Beautiful big bathroom, lovely big bed. The negatives and this is not really the fault of Briers country House but we stayed only for 1 night as we wanted to climb Slieve Donard on our way to a wedding on the west coast of Ireland (Westport) , the weather was heavy rain all night and because we slept in a room with a velux window it was deafening, we had no sleep all night, then to top it all just as the rain stopped and we were dropping off (around 7am) the alarm went off and didn't stop for about 15 mins. As far as I understand the owners are not on the premises and noone knew what to do. I also didn't like the breakfast, I understand it was a 'help yourself' but it would be better (in my opinion) if you could be offered a hot breakfast. I probably wouldn't stop again unless I knew I was in a ground floor room.

Wonderful setting in a great, clean, comfortable hotel. If in this part of Ireland then look no further, Dean was a fantastic host and even dropped us into town when the taxi didn’t arrive. The people can’t do enough for you. We all had a great stay.

My wife won a "prize" for a one night stay in the b+b. We based a trip round this with meeting friends for a walk and a meal in the nearby Maghera Inn. Less than 48 hours before we were due to go Darren informed my wife we were double booked. He then offered us a 2 night stay in the cottage. My wife then emailed Darren about a weekend booking in September for my birthday. Over two weeks later and no response despite reminders. Now the cottage is booked for that weekend. I appreciate paying customers should get preference. However, offering a 'prize' shouldn't give someone licence to just mess other people around. Why offer something in the first place if you are not going to honour it??

The warmest of welcomes on arrival at this tastefully renovated country farmhouse… The modern attention to detail and the cosiest atmosphere will make you return!! Darren and the team are exceptional in their customer service and care…there is nothing that is too much trouble and they catered for our every need!! Doggie friendly for sure and a must if you want that perfect breakaway with your pet!!! I would recommend this property and we will definitely return again soon!!!

Avoid this place at all costs staff and owner Darren is extremely rude and unhelpful rooms not clean dirty bedding and dirty shower also tv don't work in room and when asked for it to be sorted ut wasn't ...breakfast is absolute joke especially for overvly high prices charged per night..rooms supposed to have free bottles of water and milk but not in rooms and when asked for we told it will be sorted soon we never did get any had to purchase our own ...Avoid at all costs

Wow! What a fabulous wee place, right in the heart of the Mournes. Better facilities and comfort than many fancy hotels we have stayed at, and particular attention to detail. Our room was spotless and spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We didn't venture out for dinner as we were able to get a takeaway delivered and use the lovely breakfast room to eat. There is also a little bar area, with ice machine and honesty bar to add to the comfort. Breakfast was continental with everything you would want. Very exciting to read about future plans! Would definitely recommend.
