The Masons Arms

During our stay at Haggerston Castle, we were on the lookout for a nearby spot to enjoy Sunday lunch. After browsing through Tripadvisor reviews, we discovered The Mason Arms, just a 20-minute drive away. We made a reservation in advance, which turned out to be a wise decision as the place was quite busy. From the outside, the pub appears modest in size, but it opens up into a bright, modern restaurant area at the back. I especially loved the etched glass windows featuring salmon pools—such a charming touch. Our group consisted of three adults and a toddler. We chose the three-course Sunday lunch, priced at £18.50, and it was fantastic value. The menu wasn’t extensive, but it was well-curated: two starters (soup or pâté), three mains (lamb, beef, or a vegetable tart), and about five dessert options. The Peach Bellini Roulade was delicious. Although they offer a children’s menu, our little one wasn’t interested in any of the listed items. The staff were incredibly accommodating and kindly made her a cheese and tomato sandwich—even though it wasn’t on the menu. Every dish we had was faultless. The lamb and beef, both locally sourced, were cooked to perfection, and the accompanying vegetables were equally delicious. The service was warm and attentive throughout. Overall, we had an excellent meal and felt like we’d stumbled upon a hidden gem. We’ll definitely be returning.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, unbelievable Yorkshire puddings. Exceptional warm welcome and customer service. My seven year old nephew just loved the place. Would certainly recommend. Cosy and so friendly. Have accommodation up and downstairs. Open fire. Good selection of ales. All served with a smile. Food looked appealing albeit we didn't eat. A must for locals and visitors alike. Well behaved dogs allowed in bar area but not in bedrooms

4 of us had a metal detecting weekend booked just over the border in Scotland and were looking for a reasonable priced place to stay for the weekend. We struck very lucky with the Mason Arms, the rooms had a mixture of singles, twinned and double beds, were clean, comfortable and well priced with a hearty breakfast included. Linda and her staff were so welcoming that we had our evening meals there as well as evening drinks. Good choice of food on the menu and both evening meals and breakfasts were great. The staff really couldn't do enough for you and I highly recommend the place if you are looking at a few days in the border area. Locals spoke highly of the pub and staff as well. Would be my local if i lived there.

Another visit to the masons. As usual we were looked after very well. Different bedroom no 5 but really happy in there. Wished we were still there! Just a shame I didn’t win at Bingo on Thursday night. Never mind next time. Thanks to everyone ♥️

Lovely friendly place, nice food and room I especially loved the smell of the towels and bedding, so much nicer than the usual smell of hotel bedding. Would definitely recommend , the only negative is the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbours . All in all though a great place to stay.
