Dorset Arms Hotel

We (family of 5) were visiting the area as my husband had a strongman competition so we decided to stay over the night before. Initially the pub looks OK until you drive into the car park where there is a lot of broken garden furniture/left out bbq. It's a shame as it could be lovely. The barman who showed us to the room was pleasant enough. The family room (two joining rooms which works great) is a decent size and the bedding is clean. It's just unfortunate that there are signs of damp on some of the walls and headboard. The en-suite is quite mildewy and grubby but generally ok. I appreciate the hotel is located above a pub but it's like being above Phoenix Nights when "Ray Von" was playing with the 80s classics pumping out!! The WiFi is pretty non-existent, 1 loo roll between 5 of us and the TV in the twin room didn't work properly. The double bed was on the small side and the mattress had no support. Plus the shower head was broken and the dressing table nearly fell on my daughter because it's also broken. The continental breakfast was nice and the gent serving was lovely. I can appreciate what they are trying to achieve and it could be lovely but either the family room isn't used that often or the cleaners are letting them down!

Genuinely, one of the nicest places I have stayed in the UK. Incredibly friendly welcome from the mother of the owner (who was away) and the room was brilliant (and quirky but in a great way). One of the comfiest beds I have slept in. Cannot recommend this place more.

I enjoyed an excellent stay at the Dorset Arms while visiting my daughter in Newcastle. Stan the owner operator is a joy. Full of colour and has some great stories. Nice clean room and great full English breakfast. I would recommend it without reservation.
