Mama’s Inn Boutique Guest House

A colleague and I intended to stay here for two nights, but we left after one. On the plus side, the breakfast options are astonishingly varied, with dishes from all over the world, and a very tasty fruit salad. Other aspects were less impressive. The shower in my room was draining slowly; I lifted the trap out of the plug and extracted a large clump of human hair from it. It shouldn't be down to the guest to have to do that. I told the co-owner, George, the next morning, and his response was that he can't know about things like that unless the cleaners tell him. (That may be true, but regular inspections would also prevent it happening.) Nevertheless, he did get it fixed. The shower was also boiling hot and I couldn't lower the temperature, meaning I had to phone for assistance at 11pm. George explained that the heat control knob can become impossible to turn if it gets too hot, so I should leave it for a bit, then turn it down before turning the shower back on. How I'm supposed to know that I have no idea. It implies an establishment with poor maintenance. Meanwhile, after our first night, while my room was cleaned and the bed made (as you'd expect from Nottingham's number one boutique hotel), my colleague's room was not given the same treatment. He returned to find the bed unmade, the bin unemptied and the sink unwashed. He asked co-owner Marina why this was the case and she said that they thought guests preferred to make their own beds. She then appeared in his room a few minutes later, made the bed, and left without another word. My colleague also found that the radiators in his room would not stay on, and he spent a cold night in bed. This is all a bit strange and not very welcoming. Even when letting us into the car parking space George did nothing at all to show me where the one space in the car park was located, meaning I had to drive around looking for it while he stood outside the back door of the hotel. Once I'd found it he simply walked away, leaving me to locate the back door of a place I'd never been to before in the dark. Eventually we decided to go elsewhere. I hope Mama's Inn can turn things around and improve.

We stayed in the Casablanca room, while visiting Nottingham for a weekend away. This wasn't our first stay at Mama's Inn and once again they did not disappoint. The room was lovely and I slept very well in a comfortable bed. Breakfast was tasty and the tiny muffins were a nice touch, although my partner found his portion size to be a little small for the cost. I would say my biggest negative was the parking, which we pre booked, but due to the selfish wonky parking of fellow guests in their oversized vehicle, was very difficult to manage. We are not put off by this though and will certainly be back!

We recently stayed here on an overnight trip to Nottingham the website looked lovely and the price seemed great we were really looking forward to seeing what the inn had to offer and the onsite parking at a reasonable price made it very appealing.When we finally found the hotel (as all the lighting on the signage was out) the door was answered by a very sharply spoken woman with a very thick accent which obviously is not a problem but the fact that I was struggling to understand her only seemed to anger her I had to pull up outside the hotel while we found out where the parking was so asked if the car would be ok while we checked in the response to this from the woman who had met us was ” it’s not my problem or concern “ we were then informed that if we wanted breakfast it was by pre order only by 8pm which isn’t a problem if that’s how they operate but certainly not something I like in a hotel/guest house. When we were directed to the car park we were met by a random guy who pointed us into a very tight spot that had a tree growing up through it and he simply then disappeared without telling us how to access the hotel from the car park. When we got to our room and had a chance to look around this is the only positive thing we could find was that it was decorated very nicely and on first look it was tidy. Unfortunately after a closer inspection in the daylight it highlighted a few housekeeping issues. As checkout wasn’t until 11am we had planned to go into the city for an hour or two before leaving so we packed everything and went to take it out to the car around 8:30 am only to be chased down by I presume one of the owners wanting our room key. In high sight I should have questioned our choice after receiving the hotel “safety questionnaire “ asking where we were travelling from, where we intended travelling to after we left the hotel, my driving license number and passport number which I did not complete, but when I asked if this was a genuine email from the hotel they declined to answer. In summary we found the owners rude and cannot see how the hotel has such high ratings this was also echoed by other guests staying at the same time as ourselves.

Staff are so sweet and kind and go the extra mile in order to make it a lovely stay. Beds are super comfortable and food is amazing. Highly recommend. The rooms are fantastic and luxurious with incredible furniture and decorations. Location is very convenient too and there is a wonderful pub (The Golden Fleece) a minute away

Please do yourself a favour and do not book this place, it is not as advertised! We were to stay one night and left without even unpacking. The room was so tiny and cluttered we could hardly fit our luggage in let alone ourselves. Extremely overpriced for what was presented! The hosts also charged us twice for parking and were totally disinterested in any enquires. Not sure how it has a 4.5 star rating!

We stayed in the Casablanca room (and my sister and husband in St Petersburg) for very slightly less than the price of a room at a local 4 star hotel, the concept seemed to be a mix between the movie and an eastern riad, with the decor quite busy and dated in parts. The beds were not as comfortable as I would have liked. The breakfast aromas of fried food flooded the room in the morning and the outside bustle were a distraction through the night. The service and reception was ok but I always feel uncomfortable when I’m made to feel like I’m a problem which is what I did when we had to coordinate access into the car park when we arrived just after 9pm (from a day at a local spa), was then discouraged to use our car to go and eat out (it seemed to be based on the convenience of the establishment and not ours) or when I arrived at breakfast and had to go in search for a simple coffee it would have been nice if the breakfast service was attentive and to have been asked (especially as I had ellude to it being important the evening prior). I didn’t take advantage of a cooked breakfast (so can’t comment on taste or product quality) but from I saw it looked well presented and value for money. This seemed like a pleasant family run business that in its hey day would have been an attractive place in the city, I think with a bit of a reboot, concept refresh and reinvigorated service quality, could be again.
