A great experience in Tanzanite hotel with a friendly staff

The resort was nice - quite pretty actually. The staff was very nice. The food was lacking (always a buffet, always late to be set up, and always with just one meat option and a lot of rice - we were constantly hungry). The staff spent a lot of time moving the dining tables around and re-setting the tables yet there was never enough cutlery and the meals were always late. Unfortunately, it seemed like this resort was not very used to being a resort - I forgive them for this, I suspect Covid hit Zanzibar hard-. I am giving the resort a 1 star (would give NO STARS if I could) because we ended up paying them twice: original stay was December 26-29 which we needed to extend to Dec 25-29th. Due to confusing directions from ******* and absolutely no answer from the resort whatsoever, we re-booked December 25-29th. Tanzanite Beach resort has completely refused to cancel Dec 26-29th booking and despite numerous calls where they have promised to refund me and many requests sent both prior to and post stay, they have not refunded me. In person, the front desk staff kept referring me to some unknown owner figure that would get back to me. I doubt they will ever refund me. I would not stay at this resort or recommend this resort to anyone. As a previous commenter said I would be extremely careful to provide them services or any sort of deposit. They will not say no to your face but if you were unlucky enough to have overpaid them or provided them a service without being paid immediately, they will pretend it never happened and keep your money. It is unfortunate that I had to leave this review.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lodge. I always book a place I can stay while on a business trip which looks comfortable, not only did it meet my expectation but was so happy with the kindness of the staff on arrival. They were very accommodating with my dietary needs and made sure I was looked after at all times. I feel rested even after a work trip. Will definitely be back

First time visiting Tanzanite Beach Resort but I will be back to this hidden gem with whole family soon! There is a small strip of beach (sand) infront of the resort as well as amazing sand bank nearby. Rooms have just been renovated and have lovely views of the ocean!! Kitchen had variety of meals and different menu every evening. Although not a Vegetarian I actually enjoyed the veggie meal offerings (I tried almost everything on the menu!) Swahili Night (themed dinner) was the BEST!! The pool and loungers where my favourite area. All the staff where SUPER friendly and helpful! Asante :-)

Be aware, business people: Tanzanite does not pay its debts. In October last year, I was invited to meet the owners of the Tanzanite Hotel for a business meeting. The idea was to see how the hotel could be improved, to train the staff and to bring some structure to the operation (which is lacking, that's why the service and the restaurant are getting bad reviews). My airfare was to be reimbursed. Now, a year later, it still hasn't been paid. They say they don't have the money and I should be patient. It's a disgrace, not just for the Tanzanite Hotel and the family, but for Sansibar and Tanzania.

Pictures are old and present totally wrong idea about this so called resort. Restaurant: dirty cutlery, extreem high prices, many thing not available, tasteless and we had to wait 1,5 hours for two wraps and 1 club sandwich. Swimming pool, old, very small (clever how they manipulated picture), Salt water, dirty, hardly any shade. Beach: there is no beach, hard to access water, need water shoes. WiFi: not working properly. Room: after two hours waiting we could go to our room. It smells like a public toilet. Two beds with dirty sheets and 1 desk which must be 60 years old. Empty minibar. Batchroom, dirty and smells like it has never been cleaned. Location: need to walk half an hour (one way) to get to decent beach or to decent restaurant or pay taxi usd 10 (one way). Even though I booked and paid for 3 persons 1 week we left without getting a refund, that’s how horrible this place is. Don’t believe any positive review! Don’t go there!
