What a lovely place. We arrived to a warm welcome from Bernard with the best coffee I've had since arriving in Sri Lanka. A large colonial bungalow sympathetically maintained with high-class ensuites. Set in stunning gardens at the top of town with a short walk to all the things. Dinner was served in a lovely bay windowed room with a log fire and attentive but discreet service. I could not recommend Ferncliff more. We stayed one night as part of a tour. Will definitely try and come back some time. Thanks Bernard and Ferncliff.

What a wonderful getaway at Ferncliff. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet within walking distance of all the major activities in Nuwara Eliya. The British colonial-style house, which retains the the charm of an era gone by, was more than what we expected after a long journey around the island. The hospitality and the cuisine was the best, bar none.

This place was like something out of a history novel! A beautiful old villa steeped in history and lovingly restored. Beautiful grounds overlooking the hills of Nuwara Eliya. Every room is different and tells a story; all very spacious with fabulous amenities. Staff were very happy to talk about the property. We had dinner in which we ordered on check in. Not a huge selection but everyone loved their meals. Also loved that there was a fire roaring in the dining room while we are ate! Choice of Sri Lankan or western breakfast. No fridge in your room but they offered to store items for you if needed. Woke in the morning feeling very privileged to have stayed here.

The hospitality here is outstanding—staff are warm, attentive, and make you feel right at home. The on-site restaurant serves delicious local Sri Lankan cuisine, with every dish prepared from fresh, local ingredients. Food lovers will be delighted by the authentic flavors and thoughtful presentation. One of the highlights is the chance to learn and play cricket in the lush gardens, guided by the friendly team. It’s a fun way to experience a piece of Sri Lankan culture. The villa itself has an amazing story, with roots going back to the 1800s and connections to Nuwara Eliya’s founder. The historic atmosphere, complete with original portraits and cozy fireplaces, adds to the charm. In short, Hidden Ferncliff Bungalow is the perfect mountain getaway—rich in history, great food, and genuine hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Sri Lanka’s hill country!

Lovely dinner the best breakfast we have had in Sri Lanka. Very very helpful and it was a lovely place to stay. We stayed one night it was really beautiful. The service was superb in every way I wish we could have stayed longer. The gardens were beautiful and the bedrooms perfect they could have replaced the bath otherwise it was perfect.

This boutique bungalow is hidden away down a number of winding streets, away from the hustle and bustle of the town, but within easy walking distance. The staff are superb and on the occasion when the night time temperature dropped a log fire was lit in the dining room adding a cosy feel.The property is old and rustic but the bathrooms have been modernised to a high standard. This is a great place to use as a base to explore the area.

THE place to stay in Nuwara Eliya - the team here lead by Bernard are excellent and welcome you warmly into this beautiful guest house. The foods is amazing - we loved the breakfast and our evening meal. Each night we appreciated the hot water bottles delivered to our room. Lots of personal touches during our stay here. The room was spacious and we enjoyed the old world charm this house has maintained. Highly recommend Ferncliff as the best place to stay in this charming town

We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at Ferncliff Bungalow. Bernard and his team were incredibly welcoming and the grounds and decor of the hotel were beautiful. It was so peaceful & quiet but didn't take long to walk into the centre of town. Would highly recommend the walking tour as well, it was really informative. The food was also really tasty, and so generous too! Would highly recommend.

This was my first visit to Ferncliff Bungalow in Nuwara Eliya, and it was amazing. We enjoyed it a lot because the hotel is boutique-style, surrounded by greenery, and has a beautiful antique look. We loved spending time both inside and outside, enjoying the fresh air and delicious dinner & breakfast. The food was made with a lot of care and consideration. The staff at Ferncliff were exceptionally warm and friendly. The bedrooms were excellent and spotlessly clean, like the rest of the hotel. Everything about the hotel felt magical. I would highly recommend it.
