Barcaldine Castle

Can only repeat what most have said here. We had a wonderful stay after many travel hiccups. We ended up spending most of our full day here napping, walking to the beach and hiking in the area. Anna was great in supplying coffee and history of the castle and family. And a great Gin and tonic! Breakfast was delicious both days and plenty of food. Showers, beds and atmosphere all first rate. One warning, if you are arriving late, many restaurants close their kitchens at 8 even if the website says differently. So until the castle has its snack service up and running, eat before you get here! Not a fault of Barcaldine, but just a heads up.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Loch Nell room. It felt so cosy right from the moment I stepped into the room.. Alanna and Simon gave me a great tour with a brief history of the castle. That was a nice touch. Nothing was too much trouble for them, every thing was perfect and the both of them made my stay so much more enjoyable. Breakfast was a feast. Oh my God, I felt I was dining like a queen. So much choice and excellent quality, Simon is a fantastic chef, his eggs benedict was spot on. Alanna's attention to detail is apparent and I felt every need was cared for. Such a great atmosphere and a truly relaxing short stay. Wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you Alanna & Simon. Xx

The service and hospitality was superb and our breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We stayed in the Bredlebane Room and it was just a dream come true, bed comfy, the atmosphere luxurious yet “ haunting”, ( no,not really). This was a once in a life time trip my daughter took me on, and this Castle stay was just the best part.

Our best first experience staying at a castle!! Stefano was very accommodating and personable. He gave us all the wonderful history of the castle. The room was beautiful and cozy. Of our 10-day trip throughout Scotland, staying at Barcaldine tops the list of things we did and places we stayed. We stayed in three different castles and Barcaldine was by far the best. This was both for the history and authenticity of the castle (you really felt like you stepped back in time to the 1600s; our room even had a 350 year old bed and its own secret passage!), and also the atmosphere. The management and staff were so friendly and created an environment where we felt comfortable and at home. We especially enjoyed sitting by the roaring fire in the evenings and getting to learn about the castle and talk with others. The rooms were also very clean and equipped with modern conveniences, while retaining the look and feel of the original castle. We will definitely be recommending Barcaldine to others and hope to return whenever we return to Scotland!

SUCH an amazing place! So well preserved and well done on the inside. The staff (Steve in particular) are welcoming and jovial hosts. I'd like to give a special shout out to Steve for his friendliness and knowledge of the castle's history. The rooms are amazingly decorated with historic pieces. The food is wonderful and to sit in the great room with a whisky in hand, a cozy fire and to chat with others is lovely. I'd love to stay here again. I'd like to give another mention to Aiden, Brogan, Liam and Isabel who were also warm and so friendly with genuine smiles.
