The Stevenson House is a nearly 300-year-old treasure in the old town of Stadt Oberderdingen. Yes, the little medieval town of Oberderdingen officially became a city just a few weeks before we arrived. But you wouldn't know it on the back street just off the main thoroughfare of Oberderdingen's old town. The area is a treasure trove of half-timbered homes that seem frozen in time. Just a block away is the town market and Amhof (site of the village - now city - hall) and buildings dating back to the 12th century). One site is the infamous Witches Tower where victims of the witch hunts were held for trial. Our hosts treated us to homemade breakfasts and even gave us a peek at the staff quarters to see the construction of this historic structure. Visiting Oberderdingen was a delight as we visited my family's ancestral home and vineyards. And the Stevenson House was a perfect immersion into the local culture.
