Matangi Private Island Resort

Our trip to Matangi was wonderful. It was so incredibly relaxing. The staff is amazingly welcoming. The island is beautiful and unspoiled. The food was exceptional. The beach was soft and silky. We enjoyed every moment. The resort was clean and comfortable- a great combination of luxury and simplicity. We really enjoyed the waterfall trip. The village tour was interesting. We didn't miss nightlife or TV one bit. Massages were great. The outdoor shower was a nice chance from home. Snorkeling was great, the Horseshoe bay picnic a nice private time, the private dinner was romantic. The pictures on the website are good representations of the resort---the resort is what they say it is ---amazing! The plane ride from Taveuni was an experience. 18 seat plane! Nice views from the plane though. I reccomend ear plugs, a water bottle and go to the bathroom before getting on the plane. It didn't have all the "luxuries" that come with standard commercial flights. There were spiders, insects, and geckos---we quickly decided we were thankful for the netting around the bed. Linda at South Seas Travel Agency was very helpful in choosing a resort. There are so many amazing places in Fiji. It was hard to choose but she help make it clearer. We look forward to returning some day!

Fantastic experience!!! Our accommodation was exceptional, fine dining food, snorkeling was really great, corals are very healthy. People who work there are super welcoming and make you feel comfy all the time. Will go back there again for sure!!! VINAKA FIJI

Amazing stay at Matangi! Food was wonderful, staff was so friendly and helpful, and the island is beautiful! Smooth logistics and so many things to do. We loved the guided activities (kayak, waterfall hike, boat tours) and twice daily snorkels on incredible reefs.

My partner and I could not be more happy we chose this island for our only holiday in 2024. From the moment you get off the plane in Taveuni, the staff at Matangi made sure we were looked after. After a short boat ride to Matangi we were greeted by the staff with a welcome song and adorned with welcome garlands of flowers. The food was amazing! Plenty of variety and hats off to the chef, Shahir Ali who made us lobster on our last night. The reef is beautiful and the daily snorkelling excursions are a must go! Horseshoe bay is breathtaking! Love how the staff and Fijian people look after their island. Special thanks to Sisilia, Sirelli, Matilda, John, Sera, Mareoni, Paulini, Betty, Tui, Joseph, Wise and Dalip for making our stay magical. Vinaka!

Matangi was phenomenal. The staff are extremely accommodating, the food is phenomenal, and the experience is amazing. From welcoming us off the boat to private picnics in Horseshoe bay, they cater to everything you need. The beach is very nice, the snorkeling and kayaking are excellent, and the different experiences each day are great! The people are a the cherry on top to a wonderful place.

We have been lucky enough to visit Matangi multiple times before and have ALWAYS enjoyed our time there. While we certainly enjoyed our trip once again (who wouldn’t given the locale and the staff) however we have noticed a significant decline in the kitchens attention to detail - notably NOT paying attention to guests food allergies and not preparing food / meat to the wellness requested etc. Disappointing and dangerous!!!! Guests are always asked about food allergies - typically upon arrival- and my understanding is that guest allergies are documented on a board in the kitchen but the kitchen staff served allergens anyway! There was only a maximum of 16 or 18 guests while we were there-you would think something like food allergies could be monitored. We heard other couples who experienced this issue as well. This could be dangerous!!! So self monitoring and repeatedly question is your best bet. This needs to be reminded before something really bad happens! Being welcomed by familiar and smiling faces is a great way to start a vacation! We were thrilled to be welcomed back by BiBi********, John, Tim, and the smiling ladies at the Spa. It is truly these remarkable individuals and other staff members that make a visit to Matangi memorable.
