Basilica Holiday Resort

Dirty and old we arrived at the basilica on Sunday the 8th of June at about 2pm when we arrived the pleasant young lady with glasses on reception gave us a warm welcome checked us in and arranged for someone to take our cases to our room so far so good a gentleman arrived who was nice and chatty took our cases and said follow me we left reception and went out onto the main road he then took us over the main road and down a street about 100yds away when we questioned this he said our room was over here in a block called artemis not on the main resort which is not good as the main resort is where the pool the bar and restaurant are when we got to our room it was dark and miserable and the balcony as you will see in the photos attached was covered in pigeon muck with pigeons sat above constantly fouling on the balcony to me that is dangerous and a health hazard we went back to reception and managed to get the room changed to the main complex that room was dated but at least the balcony was clean and covered the hot water has to be activated by pressing a switch on the wall which we weren't informed about so 1st day had to have a cold shower it takes 40 minutes to get enough hot water for a shower the cleaners changed and made the beds regularly but the tap in the bathroom was full of limescale the floors where never mopped and were dirty and the corner of the floors looked like the hadn't been mopped in months there was black mould on the bathroom ceiling the breakfast was ok but had strange things on it some days like bread and butter pudding which is strange at the side of bacon sausage and hash browns over all the staff were nice the pool large and clean location great but certainly won't be going back

Unfortunately, for us the negatives very much outweigh the positives at this accommodation. This is a long review, but if you are considering booking this accommodation, I would urge you to think again, and read this before doing so. POSITIVES: This accommodation is very well located, within a 5 minute level walk to the harbour and many bars and restaurants. There is a large very well stocked supermarket over the road. The pool area is nice and is well kept, we observed the pool and the sunbeds being cleaned every morning. There are a number of beautiful old olive trees around the pool, and the fallen olives were cleared away every morning. There are a few sunbed mattresses that could do with being replaced but as it was never very busy, this was never an issue for us. We were self catering so can't comment on the food. We booked a 1 bed superior apartment and were given a 2 bed apartment in Thalia Block. There is no lift in Thalia - not a problem for us, but some people may need to be aware. The apartment size was very good. NEGATIVES: The apartment was very dirty and although the beds were made and clean towels provided, the apartment hadn't been cleaned at all, not even hoovered. The whole apartment was dirty: floors, doors, handles, wall tiles, windows and 2 air con units didn't work. On reporting this, the receptionist suggested I remain in the apartment to direct the cleaner. This was my holiday and I'm not the cleaning supervisor. I shouldn't have to do this, so I refused and said the whole apartment needed cleaning. The floor was cleaned and the air con units repaired. The patio door lock was broken and didn't lock, this was never repaired. We were on the second floor so felt it was unlikely that anyone could get in via the balcony, but this is besides the point, the apartment should be secure. Even the crockery needed washing - bits of dried food and smears. There was no cleaning equipment available in the apartment at all. We always book an apartment and there is usually a broom, dustpan/brush, mop, washing up liquid, dishcloth etc - there was nothing. It felt as though the apartment hadn't been used in a long while. We had 1 change of towels during our week's stay - these were just left on the sofa, but not all of the old towels were removed which was just as well as an incomplete set had been left. They also left 2 clean sheets on the sofa but didn't put them on the beds - this was only enough for 1 single bed anyway. The apartment had British 3 pin sockets, but all the appliances were European 2 pin. I asked how we were meant to use them and was grudgingly given 1 adapter and advised no others were available. We could therefore only use 1 appliance at a time, so you can't make a cup of tea and use the toaster at the same time - ridiculous. The general areas in Thalia were just as bad - they clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time and certainly weren't cleaned in the week we were there. One apartment had an old sofa cushion and d

This hotel is very, very basic and in need of some love and attention but as we were only there for 3 nights for a wedding it was fine but it isn't somewhere I would go back to or want to stay any longer than 3 nights. I usually stay in higher rated hotels so I appreciate my standards are maybe a bit high and may be subconsciously comparing it to other places I have stayed so I will try and stick to the facts! - Food was nice and kept really hot which I find in AI hotels is difficult to do sometimes. It was varied but similar at lunch and dinner. There is a section for breakfast for CYO omelettes and also meat and other specials at meal times. - Not all drinks are included in AI including most cocktails and iced coffees - these are extra. It is only house spirits, soft drinks and machine coffees (which they make you serve yourself) that are included - The pool is pretty filthy including scummy on the tiles and sand and dirt in the actual pool - There is no lifeguard on duty - There is not much for kids - a tiny pool with no water spray, and a small plastic climbing frame plonked on some grass - You have to put an immersion heater on 30-45 minutes before you want to use it but you have to insert the key card so you have to do this in your room as they only allow you to have 1 key (there was 4 of us). The hot water being on for 2 hours was not enough for all 4 of us to have hot showers The flush on our toilet was temperamental - Staff are friendly, we didn't encounter any rude staff at all - Beds are comfy and rooms were overall clean - No pool towels provided (I emailed and messaged on Instagram to ask before we arrived but no on replied so hopefully this helps people staying) - Good area, quiet and walking distance to the harbour with nice restaurants and shops, supermarket just opposite too which is handy - Only 30 minutes from airport I don't think I would class this as 3* personally but I am not a hotel critic! Was an ok stay but does need some TLC to make it better quality.

Arrived at midnight after the inevitable 1 hour dely. We had requested a room accessible via a lift as my wife has problems with stairs. Needless to say we were taken to a block with no lift and on the second floor. This was resolved and moved to Artemis block. Breakfast next morning was good with the usual selection of hot and cold food including freshly made omelettes on request. We were on a half board basis and the first night we were handed a lunchtime snack menu. When we asked why there wasnt a Buffet as advertised we were informed there were not enough people to make it worthwhile. Also told it would not be available until Sunday and it was only Tuesday! Complained to the Rep who put in a complaint but days later we were told we would not be eligible to compensation due to the fact they offered us an optional menu. That discussion is currently ongoing with Jet2! On Sunday the full Buffet evening meal was provided and was excellent.However we had eaten out for 4 nights as we did not wish to eat off the same snack menu for those nights. Room was a one bedroom apartment. Very dated but adequate. Minor problems such as no hairdryer, kitchen bin and toilet brush. They were provided but the kitchen bin mysteriously was taken back after a few days! Staff were very good especially Luciano. Although the cleaners were unfortunately poor. So be careful if you are booking this hotel next year. We arrived in mid May and full buffet service was not available until 5 days in to our two week stay. It would have been much cheaper to book bed & breakfast and upgrade when full service is resumed.

This place was obviously once a great hotel and obviously has potential but seems they’ve let it go somewhat. Positives- the local is fab and the rooms are quite spacious and kitchen fairly well equipped. Negatives- The second ‘bedroom’ had a broken dishwasher dumped in it. The air con started leaking on the last day. The breakfast is pretty poor- the only saving grace was the lady doing omelettes to order. The rest is continental or luke warm English breakfast. We ended up removing our breakfast wrist bands and going down to the harbour. The place is in general disrepair, the pool is not particularly clean, the two ‘water features’ we not working. The gym is old and tatty. The stairwell up to our apartment stank of cats urine, I found a pile of cat food at the bottom so that could explain why. Our toilet in our room didn’t flush anything other than urine away so I was forced to go down in my pj’s to the toilet by the pool. We were there for 3 nights so didn’t bother to moan too much, however I did ask for late check out on the last day as were visiting our wedding venue and that was rejected. I then bought these issues to the manager who gave a very unbothered response.

This hotel is 3 star. It is in a great location for the harbour. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The housekeeping is brilliant. The whole environment is clean and tidy. A great base to explore Cyprus. There are some negative reviews on here, however you get what you pay for, and who spends all their holiday time in their room?
