The Fountain Inn

We found this place by chance after spending our first night in the Forest of Dean in Cinderford, and decided to loose the money we had paid for a second night there after experiencing the far better service and standards at the Fountain. Staying at the Fountain was a complete contrast to the first accommodation, and we will definitely return to this friendly, well-run pub with rooms. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable - they have even written a book about the history of the building which they sell at the bar - we bought a copy and it was a fascinating read. The meals were very well prepared, served by friendly staff. The room was spotlessly clean, everything worked as it should - we were sorry to have only one night there. We will definitely return to the Forest of Dean, and we will make sure that we stay at the Fountain again.

Stayed two nights for a short break. Very friendly staff and food excellent. Pub was busy even early in the week which is a good sign! Parkend is an attractive old mining village with a very open feel and easy access to the forest for walking or cycling. The Fountain is an old building and access up the stairs needs a little care but rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. Good value.

Room was extremely comfortable. Food was superb. Steak cooked to perfection. Lots of varied menu choices for evening meals and breakfasts. Michelle and the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. I stay here regularly and would not dream of going anywhere else.

Popped in for a light lunch, the lady behind the bar was extremely friendly and pleasant. I had pint of Hopfather very tasty and well kept . The food arrived quite quickly considering how busy they were! Always a good sign on a midweek lunch time. The food was well presented and very tasty. The pudding was great . The waitress was very happy and friendly. A very pleasant break.

Friendly welcome, spotless rooms, comforting food, local ales. This is perfect location for a group of MTB riders heading into the Forest of Dean. Secure cycle storage in the cellar. All the staff were great and couldn't do enough for you. We'll be back.

Lovely place in the Forest of Dean. The Fountain is a historical building which provides a range of accommodation hosted by a lovely landlord and landlady. I stayed for two nights and had a great time at the Fountain, as with excellent staff, great food and different beers, I would definitely come back again in the future.
