Inn on the Hudson

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. The stuff were talking outside of my room for all night and the walls are not sound proof. We told them we can hear them, but they don't move. And we can hear the trains passing by. Very noisy! Also, there is no river view. It is the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel.

PROS: Location: it is by metro north so travelers can take the train four stops to Grand Central Terminal. It is also located by 9 A which connects to roads that take you to NYC. It is in Peekskill and on the waterfront, which is beautiful. Peekskill has a nice downtown area, grocery stores, movie theater, and a waterfront park. Staff: all the staff that I encountered were nice. Coffee: was very tasty and free. Breakfast: they have a grab and go from 6 am to 10 am. In the bag is a small water, waffle, pop tart, and muffin. Not the most nutritious items, but it can tide you over until your next meal. Our view: we had a beautiful view of the Hudson River. The housekeeper was pleasant and did a decent job cleaning the room. We had a refrigerator and a microwave, and both worked. CONS: Our room was in serious need of a paint job. The doors (to the room and to the balcony) were dirty. The door to the bathroom had a dent in it. The AC worked fine, but there was a slight smell to the room from it. The towels are very thin, and you only receive two shower towels. The bathroom was small, but water flow from the shower was ok. The sink drained the water slowly. There was a loud fight from 2 am to 4:30 am during one of our nights. We think people are living at the inn. There was yelling, doors slamming, and stomping. It was very annoying. We did not notify the staff because we were concerned about retaliation. Also, we had asked three times for a “do not disturb sign” for our door and never received it. We did not have confidence that a complaint about the fighting would lead to results. It only happened one night, but that was more than enough. It the room was updated; the inn has potential. I have no idea what other rooms look like, but ours needs a makeover. If you have any specific questions, I recommend calling the inn because there is old information on other websites about the amenities. The pool is permanently closed, but it is listed as an amenity on other sites. It is possible that the rooms on the first floor are in better condition because there were more than thirteen cars parked in the morning.

We stayed 2 nights. Good location, helpful and competent front desk folks, and our our non-smoking room was clean (great housekeeping staff!) with plenty of air conditioning and a comfortable bed. So our most important conditions were met. But gosh, it seems like this hotel has been ridden hard, and there is a significant lack of skilled maintenance all around. Our room had a bunch of peeling enamel / marine paint in the bathtub, lots of scuffed and chipped places on the walls in need of paint touch-ups, an incorrectly installed glass shower door that seems likely break if closed, and a wiggly pedestal sink with the basin resting on the pedestal instead of mounted securely to the wall. It looks like the sink may have fallen once already, pulling the paint off the wall. This fit the overall impression we had of not just an older place, which would be fine, but of a worn out place with haphazard care. The pool is closed and looking at the deck and the unused event space, I suspect it will not be open again anytime soon. It is in such a nice spot, there are wonderful hand-lettered signs, and you can tell it was once and could again be really charming. The parking lot did fill overnight and empty again in the morning, so perhaps there is enough profit in 1-night highway travelers it as it is? I don't know... If you can enjoy the basics of roof, bed, climate control, and plumbing without being upset by the condition of the property, then go for it! It is not cheap, but it is less expensive than the nice place up the hill.

If I could rate this a Zero I would.. . When we first entered the room on the floor by the bed was a nail clipper.On the bed there where some long dark hairs on the bed.. (Thank God I bought my own blankets with me) I went to use the bathroom and got stuck in there because the door was off, I was stuck in there.. I sat a half hour waiting for my boyfriend to come back from the store.. I didn't bring my phone in the bathroom..I will Now always carry my phone.. Next nightmare the T.V would go off and on.. Called the desk clerk and she said to just disconnect and reconnect the t.v everyone does..So I did and no luck SMFH... I called her back and was put on hold several times.. I was irate by than.. at about 10.30 at night she said I could just change rooms, but I would have to come down and do paper work and get a new key.. I told her I would have to pack all my stuff , get dressed than come down .That's ridiculous this late..She said people do it all the time.. Never once was there I am sorry your experience this, or just we apologize to you..This woman acted like I was bothering her SMH..It was the Worst, Horrible, disgusting customer Service I ever received.. Than they don't warn you.. I didn't notice at first probaly because of all that was going on.. All you hear all night is a million trains that go by and blow their horn (Now I know why they had a big bowl of earplugs at the desk...Warning do not stay here..Oh also everytime the next door rooms flush or use the water in their bathroom you hear it... Room was clean, bed was good. But furnisher is in very poor shape. Chain lock on door was missing. Door lock did not seem secure, so pushed chair up under handle for extra security. I am traveling as a single female. Did not feel like a secure placed, plus room was toward the end of the building. When called to book the rate on line it showed $139.00, plus additional 10% off for mobile booking. I was asked if I had stayed here before which I had not, I was informed the rate would be $159.00 because it was my first stay here. This is not the hotel's fault..but beware of the trains that run all night long. You definitely need ear plug! I was not aware of this. Business will be bringing me to the area often, but I will not return to this motel.

In its heyday, this was probably a beautiful inn. Unfortunately, it’s now run down and poorly maintained. Pros: Pool appears to be newly opened and maintained Short drive to some great restaurants (Burger Diner and the “monistary” on the hill were amazing Complimentary ear plugs to reduce noise of the trains Both mini-fridge and microwave were clean and worked. They occupy half of a closet and the other half is well stocked with hangers Cons: Walls are very thin and excited neighbors can keep you up till the wee hours after which the nearby trains take over. Poor maintenance — our bathroom had a broken toilet paper holder and a sink that drained slowly… and stopped draining altogether our last day. Attendant tried to unstop it with a snake and a coat hanger and then gave up. She said they couldn’t call a plumber because they don’t work on holidays, and their maintenance person didn’t work on holidays either. Doors were worn both from water damage and friction due to poor adjustment. Chest of drawers had loose, wobbly drawers, the “desk” also wobbled and the chair was very fragile as well. Bed sagged in middle, though we were able to sleep ok. Billing is very unorthodox, with different prices each day ranging from $125 a night to as much as $500 one night. The receptionist explained they charge different prices close to the date of West Point’s graduation — the campus is half an hour away. They offer snacks, but only accept cash for them because they’re afraid using a card for anything other than room rent will “mess up” the room payments. The inn offers a complimentary protein-free grab and go breakfast that includes a small muffin, a yogurt cup, Nutrigrain bar and a miniature bottle of water as well as an orange juice. Notes: while the buildings are old and run down, the property has a lot of potential for renovation and improvements in management. The cleaning team does not speak English, but they do a fine job. Some of the lobby staff are as helpful as they know how, but almost all of them seem to lack any training and show limited skills in hospitality. Do not recommend at this time.

Stayed one night after an event in town. Very nice, clean and comfortable. Staff was great. Breakfast was just a grab and go but coffee all day. Nice location, near the train so the train whistle all night but it was fine. Would definitely recommend!

You can hear every conversation of anyone outside your room, which was magnified during our stay with drunken post-wedding guests. At 0100, I notified the front desk that we were only there for 6 hours, to sleep, had paid $260, and could not sleep due to the excessive drunken loudness all around us. The man who answered the phone said he could not do "anything." I asked why they didn't have a noise policy for after a certain time, which is what EVERY hotel I've ever been at, has. He basically invited the idea that the hotel was like a bar that accepted drunken loud behavior and did not support sleeping customers. They should just remove the beds and add barstools in the rooms. If you want to party all night, book this hotel. Do not book if you are attempting to sleep.

It's an old hotel with an overlook of the Hudson. New floors, old beds. Nothing exceptional, but not too bad, either. It was the best value we could find in the area, and it was fine for us. The manager and desk staff were nice to deal with. If you need a short term stay, give them a try.
